Job Summary

The Senior Director of Individual Philanthropy (“Director”) leads the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-net-worth individuals and family foundations that currently support—or have the capacity to support—Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

This role oversees comprehensive moves management strategies to achieve an annual revenue portfolio of $2 million or more, including responsibility for related reporting, financial tracking, and performance monitoring.

Reporting to the Vice President of Resource Development, the Director manages up to two full-time development staff and serves as a key member of a collaborative, team-oriented Resource Development Department. The Director works closely with colleagues across fundraising events, marketing and communications, grants and contracts, and other portfolio managers to ensure integrated and strategic fundraising efforts.

This position is highly relationship-driven and operates within established fundraising benchmarks and key performance indicators, contributing to both individual portfolio success and department-wide performance goals.

Role & Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of an individual philanthropy revenue portfolio generating $2 million or more in annual operating revenue, including short- and long-term strategy development, execution, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
• Build, cultivate, and steward strong, long-term relationships with key donors and prospects, advancing donors through a strategic moves-management framework that supports increasing levels of engagement and giving over time.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward significant and transformational gifts, aligning donor interests with organizational priorities beyond annual fundraising needs, including capacity-building initiatives and strategic investments.
• Develop and implement comprehensive multi-year fundraising strategies to retain, renew, and grow philanthropic support, including individual gifts, foundation grants, planned gifts, sponsorships, major gifts, and multi-year commitments.
• Accountable for achieving annual and multi-year benchmarks and revenue goals through clear solicitation strategies, informed forecasting, and monthly and quarterly portfolio analysis and reporting.
• Lead a holistic stewardship approach that meaningfully engages, recognizes, and celebrates donors, sponsors, and board members in alignment with organizational values and philanthropic best practices.
• Supervise and develop up to two full-time development staff, providing coaching, strategic guidance, and performance support to ensure successful execution of fundraising responsibilities.
• Maintain current knowledge of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver’s funding priorities, programs, and strategic initiatives to effectively align donor interests with organizational needs.
• Conduct and direct donor prospect research across the individual team to support funding for operations, programs, and special initiatives.
• Support the Resource Development team in engaging Board and Associate Board members to strengthen and sustain key funding partnerships, sponsorships, and volunteer involvement.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with the Grants and Contracts team, relationship managers, and Programs team to research, develop, and contribute to compelling funding proposals for existing and new opportunities.
• Provide project leadership for approved donor engagement and stewardship activities, including volunteer opportunities and cultivation events.
• Lead efforts to secure individual sponsorships, matching and seed gifts, and oversee benefit fulfillment for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver’s signature fundraising events, in partnership with the fundraising events team.
• Maintain advanced working knowledge of the organization’s constituent relationship management (CRM) system, ensuring timely and accurate data entry, data requests, and analytical segmentation to inform fundraising strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, communications, nonprofit management, or a related discipline
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit development, with a demonstrated track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding five‑ and six‑figure gifts, including complex solicitations and planned giving strategies, and managing long-term donor relationships.

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills

• Track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals within an organization operating with an annual budget of $5 million or more.
• Proven success building and sustaining long-term, trust-based relationships with high-net-worth individuals and family foundations in a nonprofit setting.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, and effective delegation.
• Experience managing and/or leading staff, including the ability to coach, mentor, and support performance in a collaborative environment.
• Experience engaging and partnering effectively with volunteers, board members, and senior leadership to advance fundraising and organizational objectives.
• Exceptional written, editorial, and verbal communication skills, including experience with proposal development, grant reporting, strategic presentations, and donor-facing materials. Donor marketing experience is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and fundraising goals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of—or ability to quickly learn—the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, as well as nonprofit management principles and best practices in resource development and philanthropic funding.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and credibility with diverse stakeholders and donor audiences.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as Raiser’s Edge or a comparable constituent relationship management (CRM) database.

Conditions of Employment

• The position requires passing criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks. 
• The position must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy. 
• The position will primarily works indoors. Accordingly, the ability to use a variety of equipment including janitorial and office equipment is required.
• Some job duties require the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion. 
• Strong English proficiency is required for this position to ensure effective communication with staff, club members, and families, as well as to follow safety and procedural guidelines accurately.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly supervise up to two employees, providing clear expectations, strategic guidance, and ongoing support to ensure successful execution of fundraising responsibilities.
• Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and management of staff and approved volunteers in alignment with organizational needs and best practices.
• Provide ongoing professional development, coaching, and regular performance evaluations, fostering employee growth, accountability, and high performance.

In-Office and Remote Work

This position works primarily at the Program Support Center but may occasionally work from other Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver facilities as necessary.  All remote work and other flexible work arrangements must be approved prior to implementation.
