Overview

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County is seeking its next CEO/Executive Director, a mission-driven, culture-centered leader who can inspire staff, engage the community, partner effectively with the Board of Directors, and lead a growing organization with strong operational and financial discipline.

The CEO/Executive Director will bring the Club’s mission to life by ensuring young people have a safe, positive, fun, and supportive place to learn, grow, build confidence, and prepare for great futures.

 

The right leader will understand that the Boys & Girls Club is both a mission organization and a growing business. As the organization expands its reach and impact, it also carries an increasingly complex cost structure, including staffing, facilities, programming, transportation, compliance, safety, fundraising, and long-term financial sustainability.

 

This role is best suited for a leader who is energized by both mission and management. The right candidate will care deeply about kids while also understanding that lasting impact requires strong teams, sound financial practices, operational clarity, disciplined execution, and broad community support.

Responsibilities

Mission, Strategy, and Leadership

  • Lead the overall planning and operation of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County.
  • Implement strategic plans, annual goals, and organizational priorities in partnership with the Board of Directors.
  • Set a clear vision for growth, program quality, community impact, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure the organization’s mission is reflected in daily decisions, staff expectations, programming, partnerships, and community messaging.
  • Identify opportunities to increase youth served, improve program effectiveness, and deepen the Club’s impact across Barron County.

Culture and Team Development

  • Build and sustain a positive, accountable, mission-centered workplace culture.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and support staff and volunteers.
  • Recruit, develop, retain, and evaluate paid and volunteer team members.
  • Create clarity around roles, expectations, standards, and performance.
  • Foster a team environment where staff feel valued, supported, and inspired to serve kids at a high level.
  • Develop administrative and operational standards that help the organization achieve its goals.

Business Operations and Financial Management

  • Oversee the financial health and operational performance of the organization.
  • Establish and manage budgets in partnership with the Board and appropriate committees.
  • Ensure resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and best practices.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, cash flow, staffing models, program costs, facility needs, and other key drivers of sustainability.
  • Strengthen systems that support efficiency, accountability, compliance, and long-term growth.
  • Manage the cost structure of a growing nonprofit organization while protecting mission quality and impact.

Fundraising, Community Engagement, and Public Relations

  • Serve as the lead ambassador for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County.
  • Promote the Club’s mission, programs, outcomes, and needs to donors, businesses, civic groups, schools, service organizations, families, and community partners.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, donor cultivation, grant opportunities, sponsorship development, events, and other resource development activities.
  • Build strong relationships throughout Barron County to increase awareness, engagement, trust, and support.
  • Tell the Club’s story in a compelling way that inspires people to give, volunteer, advocate, and partner.

Board Partnership and Governance

  • Provide professional leadership and support to the Board of Directors.
  • Help ensure the Board is informed, engaged, effective, and aligned around the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Support Board development, including identification, recruitment, orientation, training, and involvement of Board members.
  • Work closely with the Board Chair, Executive Committee, and committees to advance organizational goals.
  • Provide clear reporting, thoughtful recommendations, and timely communication to support strong governance and decision-making.

Program Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Monitor and support program services to ensure alignment with the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Ensure safety is treated as a core value and embedded into operations, training, supervision, facilities, programs, and decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with Boys & Girls Clubs of America membership requirements, regulatory standards, youth protection expectations, and applicable laws.
  • Ensure the organization has clear standards, measures, training, and practices in place to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Serve as a point of escalation, feedback, and approval for reportable Club incidents.
  • Ensure accident and incident reports are completed, current, properly submitted, and archived.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Ability to lead, organize, plan, and coordinate operations in a multi-site or multi-unit environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, including decision-making, delegation, negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors or governing body.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, donors, community groups, schools, partner agencies, and volunteers.
  • Ability to supervise professionals, support staff, and volunteers across different locations or functions.
  • Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, asset management, and operational oversight.
  • Understanding of nonprofit management, fundraising, donor development, grants, and community partnerships.
  • Ability to lead safely, ethically, and in compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Passion for serving youth and strengthening communities.

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree or advanced degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required.

Equivalent leadership experience, nonprofit experience, business management experience, community leadership, fundraising success, youth development experience, or other relevant executive leadership experience will also be strongly considered.
