Overview

The Chief Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and is responsible for the organization's overall leadership, management, strategic direction, financial stewardship, and operational success. The Chief Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board of Directors, site directors, staff, funders, governmental entities, Tribal organizations, and diverse community partners to advance the organization's mission, ensure financial sustainability, strengthen community relationships, and support organizational growth.

 

The Chief Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing the organization's strategic plan, overseeing organizational finances and grants, leading fundraising and resource development efforts, building community partnerships, and ensuring consistent implementation of programs, policies, and services throughout the organization.

 

The Chief Executive Director provides leadership, guidance, training, technical assistance, and organizational support to Site Directors and staff while promoting organizational effectiveness, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

Operations Oversight and Site Support (30%)

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and operational support to directors at all organizational
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess operational effectiveness, identify needs, and provide
  • Assist Site Directors in identifying challenges and developing solutions that supportorganizational goals and service
  • Review site operations and provide recommendations, guidance, and technical assistanceto support compliance with organizational policies, procedures, grant requirements, and best practices.
  • Promote consistency in organizational operations, policies, procedures, and servicedelivery across all sites.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among Site Directors.
  • Support implementation of organizational initiatives, strategic priorities, and Board-approved goals.
  • Serve as a resource for directors seeking assistance with program development, grantimplementation, organizational operations, and community
  • Monitor organizational performance and recommend operational improvements toenhance effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.

Leadership Development and Organizational Management (20%)

  •  Develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs for directors and
  • Coordinate leadership development opportunities and professional growth activities.
  • Create and maintain training materials, guides, and resource manuals.
  • Lead the onboarding, orientation, and training of newly hired directors and key leadership
  • Identify training needs and recommend professional development opportunities.
  • Facilitate statewide meetings, workshops, and educational sessions.
  • Promote leadership succession planning and organizational capacity
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, training, and technical assistance to Site Directors tosupport leadership development and organizational
  • Assist Site Directors in identifying professional development opportunities andimplementing best practices that strengthen organizational
  • Facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and peer learning among Site Directors andorganizational

 

Community Relations, Partnership Development, and Fundraising (25%)

  •  Establish and maintain relationships with businesses, civic organizations, schools, Tribalgovernments, government agencies, funders, and diverse community partners.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and community
  • Promote organizational programs, services, and initiatives throughout the communities
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration that enhance services and resources.
  • Strengthen community awareness and support of organizational
  • Initiate and lead fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and special events.
  • Cultivate relationships with businesses, foundations, donors, and community leaders tosecure donations, sponsorships, grants, and in-kind support.
  • Support donor stewardship, recognition, and engagement activities.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities that support organizational sustainability and

 

Strategic Planning, Grants Management, and Organizational Development (25%)

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization's strategic
  • Assist leadership and Site Directors in implementing strategic goals and organizational
  • Monitor organizational grants, budgets, expenditures, cash flow, and financialperformance to ensure compliance with funding requirements, Board directives, and organizational
  • Review and monitor grant financial reports, reimbursement requests, budgets, spendingactivity, and grant performance metrics to ensure compliance with federal, state, Tribal, and private funding requirements.
  • Review and approve grant budgets, budget revisions, reimbursement requests, financialreports, and other grant-related financial submissions prior to submission to funding agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with finance staff, grant managers, Site Directors, and fundingagencies to ensure proper financial management, reporting, and compliance of all grant- funded programs.
  • Monitor trends, challenges, and opportunities affecting organizational
  • Prepare reports regarding organizational performance, training efforts, partnershipdevelopment, fundraising activities, grant outcomes, and financial status.
  • Present reports, recommendations, and organizational updates to the Board of
  • Recommend improvements to strengthen organizational effectiveness, sustainability, andfinancial
  • Support organizational growth through long-range planning, resource development, andcapacity-building initiatives.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, NonprofitManagement, Organizational Leadership, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or an Associate degree in a related field and three (3) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit management,organizational leadership, grants management, program administration, finance, community development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and increasingly responsible experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Experience managing grant-funded programs and ensuring compliance with grantrequirements, reporting obligations, and funding regulations.
  • Experience in monitoring budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
  • Experience developing partnerships and working collaboratively with communityorganizations, government agencies, funders, businesses, and diverse community partners.
  • Experience with strategic planning, organizational development, or program
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving
  • Proficiency with standard office technology and financial management

Preferred

  •  Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, NonprofitManagement, Organizational Leadership, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit management, executive leadership, grants management, finance, program administration, community development, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, Tribalgovernments, or federally funded programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic plans and organizational
  • Experience preparing, monitoring, and reporting on federal, state, Tribal, or private
  • Experience leading fundraising initiatives, donor development activities, sponsorshipprograms, or resource development
  • Experience working with multi-site organizations or
  • Experience presenting reports and recommendations to boards, governing bodies, orexecutive leadership.
  • Professional certifications related to nonprofit management, public administration,finance, grants management, leadership, or organizational

 

 Physical Requirements

  •  Ability to travel extensively throughout the State of Maine.
  • Ability to attend meetings, training sessions, fundraising events, and communityactivities, including occasional evening or weekend activities.

Work Location and Travel Requirements

This position is eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement, subject to organizational needs and approval by the Board of Directors.

Regular travel to all five organizational locations is required to support financial oversight, grant administration, compliance activities, reporting, data review, training, and organizational initiatives.

Residency within the State of Maine is desired. Residency within the organization's service area is preferred.

Remote work arrangements may be modified or revoked based on operational needs, performance considerations, or organizational requirements.
