Overview

Designs, implements, and evaluates, in consultation with the President and CEO, the immediate and long-range fundraising program of the organization including annual campaign, capital and endowment giving, planned and deferred giving, fundraising events, grant proposals and other formal gift initiatives. Builds, sustains, and monitors philanthropic relationships with a pool of donors, prospects, and foundations. The VP, Development will direct marketing (both internal and external), communications, and public relations for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta, ensuring all marketing activities are aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of the organization. Provide executive leadership for fundraising, development, and marketing efforts while demonstrating the core values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta by modeling integrity, collaboration, accountability, responsibility, and excellence.  

Responsibilities

FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT: 

  • Secure funding through annual, capital, and endowment campaigns, events, planned giving, major gifts and grants, by actively participating in solicitation of donations, funding, and sponsorships. 
  • Support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta’s long range strategic plan through establishment of annual development plans and fundraising budget. 
  • Lead completion of the $5MM endowment campaign. 
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders such as corporations, elected officials, non-profit organizations, foundations, and citizens of the community. 
  • Provide regular fundraising and budget reports to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta’s CEO and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta’s Board of Directors. 
  • Help create philanthropic culture within board members and employees. 
  • Lead major events to fuel annual campaign and mission awareness. 
  • Plan, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and best practices, assuring compliance with all regulations, laws, and by-laws. 
  • Develop and manage alumni activities to drive support for the organization. 
  • Manage Salesforce CRM initiatives and activity for completeness and accuracy to maximize fundraising and relationship development/management efforts. 

 

MARKETING: 

  • Provide leadership to the marketing and communications department, overseeing all internal and external communications, brand management, and marketing strategy.  
  • In collaboration with department leadership, create annual plans and budgets followed by annual creative campaigns for each area of the organization. 
  • Create and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations 

process that conveys the mission to all donors, members, families, and partners in a consistent compelling manner that leads to increased earned media and philanthropic investment. 

  • Train employees and volunteers on communicating the life changing mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta in a manner that leads to philanthropic investment. 
  • Serve as principal partner for advertising/PR partners/agencies that augment and maximize efforts of in-house talent and maximize earned media (local, regional, national) 
  • Help craft positive image of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta, weaving CEO into brand awareness and advancement as the organization’s chief storyteller. 

 

 

Qualifications

Advanced degree is preferred. The successful applicant will have at least seven years’ experience in a leadership role, with three or more years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and development.  A minimum of 5-10 years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or other organization/company with an emphasis on fundraising, marketing, sales, management, budgeting, community and public relations. Strategic planning and budgeting experience. Track record of success securing six and seven figure gifts/grants and completion of capital campaigns of $3 million plus. Proven track record of achieving revenue targets of over $1M annually. Proven management and leadership capabilities. High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail with a high degree of initiative. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development. Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong executive presence. Knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to fundraising issues. Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base. Good computer skills and knowledge of database programs, especially contact management systems. Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and manage new accounts. 

 

SKILLS NEEDED:  

  • High energy and a passion for Boys & Girls Club mission is essential. 
  • Ability to construct, articulate and implement strategic and department development plan. 
  • Leadership, team building, interpersonal, and time management skills. 
  • Must be able to generate trust and build alliances in the organization, with key community organizations, city, county and state governments and other key constituents. 
  • A polished public speaker and presenter with outstanding media relations skills. 
  • A critical thinker with attention to detail who regularly seeks innovative solutions to complex issues. 
  • Flexible, with the ability to know when to shift direction and when to be persistent. 
  • Must communicate concisely both in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents. 
  • Marketing experience at a senior management level; experience with brand management, print, radio, television and electronic/social media advertising and programming. 
  • Ability to build a multi-dimensional development department. 
  • Must have the ability to manage public relations programs in multiple cities, simultaneously. 
  • Humility, charisma, and fun are essential.
