Overview

Under the supervision of the CEO, Nicole Watson, the Area Director directs and manages overall daily operations of more than one designated Branch or Unit Clubhouse with the primary concern for safety, programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations and membership administration. Advises and assists Branch/Unit Directors in the areas of volunteers, facility management, personnel issues, budget development and programs.  

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Leadership  

  • Provide leadership and direction to Branch Directors in the management of their designated Branches. Attends and participates in advisory or steering committee meetings and keeps branches advised of issues.  

 

  • Ensure an environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes, with overall responsibility for cleanliness, attractiveness and safety of properties and equipment.  

 

  • Embrace full responsibility for the organization's operational and program success, driving outcomes with a sense of ownership and accountability in all aspects of the role. 

 

Strategic Planning  

  • Ensure the development and implementation of a strategic planning process for overall Unit and Branch programs, including the development of annual program goals and objectives. 

 

  • Ensure quality improvement of programs by conducting program evaluations and annual written analysis of member needs and interest. Compiles monthly statistical reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.  

 

  • Encourage and support effective board roles and functions, acting as a liaison to the Board of Directors and keeping them advised of activities and needs of branches, in conjunction with the CEO. 

 

  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, growth, or innovation, and develop and implement actionable plans to address them with minimal supervision. 

 

  • Take initiative to assess feedback, suggestions, and growth opportunities, translating them into strategic plans and executing solutions to drive organizational improvement. 

 

 

Time Management & Prioritization 

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring tasks and projects are executed on time and within budget. 

 

  • Develop and implement systems for prioritizing workflows, deadlines, and resource allocation across departments. 

 

  • Establish processes to enhance team efficiency and ensure optimal use of time for leaders and staff. 

 

Confidentiality 

 

  • Ensure all sensitive or private information, including personal, financial, and operational data, is handled with the utmost discretion. 

 

  • Share information strictly on a need-to-know basis and only with authorized individuals. 

 

 

Resource Management 

  • Manage financial resources, participating in the development of branch annual budgets. Control expenditures against budget, making recommendations for expenditures to purchase supplies and equipment.  

 

  • Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place, overseeing the maintenance and operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club, including use of facilities by outside groups.  

 

  • Recruit, select, manage and provide career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.  

 

 

Partnership Development  

  • Develop collaborative partnerships with public, civic groups and social agencies within the community. Represent the organization and interpret its objectives, standards, and programs.  

 

Marketing and Public Relations:  

  • Collaborate with the CEO to manage public relations efforts that promote the Club and support membership growth. Lead and coordinate all publicity for Club programs and services throughout the Club and the community. 

 

Qualifications

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  1. May manage and work with staff on special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community. 
  1. Approve purchases of supplies and equipment.  
  1. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.  
  1. Assure integrity of cash handling processes within branches.  
  1. Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire. 
  1. Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing  concerning Branch programs and goals.  
  1. Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to: building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, set up of AV equipment, etc. 
  1. Will be a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club. 
  1. Assume other duties as assigned.  

 

 

 

 

RELATIONSHIPS: 

 

Internal:   Due to the relationships with members, staff, and volunteers, a minimum of 2 years’ commitment is recommended. Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.   

 

External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems. 

 

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

 

  • Preferred a 4-year college degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent/relevant work experience with youth ages 7 -18 years old. 

 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.  

 

  • Strong communication skills, understanding of group dynamics. 

 

  • Thorough knowledge of recreation and youth development theory.  

 

  • Demonstrated ability in working with Boards.  

 

  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff, as well as deal with staff and member discipline problems.  

 

  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.  

 

  • Skills in fund-raising events.  

 

  • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities. 

 

  • Basic knowledge of updating and managing websites. 

 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment use (projectors, screens, televisions, security systems etc.). 

 

  • Experience using video development software and other software. 

 

  • Mandatory CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications. 

 

  • Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record. 
  • Ability to learn and teach teamwork, sportsmanship, good character, and citizenship. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  1. Use hands and upper extremities to type and operate computers. 
  1. Manual dexterity to repair equipment. 
  1. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds. 
  1. Ability to sit, stand, and walk to supervise members. 
  1. Noise level in the work environment varies from very quiet to very noisy based on attendance. 
  1. Supervision of large, medium, and small groups is required. BGCCV staff ratio is 1 adult per 20 members.
