Overview

Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego is seeking a highly motivated, critical-thinking, strategic, and experienced youth services nonprofit senior leader to be our next Chief Impact Officer! This in-person role is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reports to the CEO.

 

Last year, we expanded our organization through a merger and grew our footprint and impact to the youth and communities of Oceanside, Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Carmel Valley. Internally, with 7 direct reports, this role is vital in the direct leadership over the department heads of all of our Specialty Programs, while also having rollup responsibility of our main After School Programs via the Senior Director of Operations. All departments combined- administrative and programs, we have over 200 staff through the school year and approximately 300 staff during our Summer Camps.

 

Externally, this role will be an extension of the CEO out in the community, expanding collaborative partnerships and deepening our brand amongst stakeholders, donors, and Board of Directors and Board Committee members.

Salary range: $90,000/yr- $110,000/yr

Responsibilities

The Chief Impact Officer (CIO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving high-level strategic program development, ensuring high-quality outcomes, and expanding the reach and impact of the organization’s specialty programs. This role oversees all aspects of programmatic excellence, including budget management, partnership development, grant oversight, leadership and management, and coaching of the Program leaders and Operations Team Members.

 

The CIO provides the leadership, management and long-term vision necessary to ensure the organization has proper operational controls, and administrative and reporting procedures in place to ensure operational efficiency. Oversees all Specialty program leaders to include Aquatics, Athletics, Carmel Valley Montessori School (CVMS), Culinary Arts, Real Options for Adults with Disabilities (ROADs), and Youth Arts Academy (YAA). Additionally, oversees the Senior Director of Operations who all Clubhouse leaders report to. In supervising these leaders, primary focus will be on program development guidance and advice, along with program implementation. Additional focus will be on staff development, outcome measures, and budget management. Works closely with Human Resources regarding personnel issues and concerns, including the hiring and termination of management-level employees. Will also work closely with the Board of Directors and applicable Board committees. Actively attends and participates in Special Events and fundraising activities. Performs any other duties as assigned by the CEO.

 

Direct reports: (1) Aquatics Director, (2) Athletics Director, (3) CVMS Director, (4) Culinary Arts Director (5) ROADs Director, (6) YAA Program Manager, and (7) Senior Director of Operations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership that mirrors the adopted mission and core values.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems and processes.
  • Responsible for the management of membership tracking systems. Report on all membership counts, including grant reporting for Specialty Programs and membership tracking for BGCA, as well as provides support with Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego (BGCNWSD) report.
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and high performance.
  • Strategic Planning: Provide leadership support for the expansion of specialty programs, including strategic planning, goal setting, and aligning program objectives with overall business goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (e.g., leadership, other departments, suppliers, customers) to integrate quality and professional development into all phases of the product/service lifecycle.
  • Assist with managing program budgets and allocating resources effectively to ensure program success and expansion goals are met.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements in quality assurance and professional development, and incorporate best practices into program design.
  • Responsible for reporting outcomes and collective impact on membership and the community.

Strategic Planning and Safety:

  • Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness on the basis of participation and achievement of stated goals; recommends modifications to improve program performance, as appropriate.
  • Recommend changes and re-development of programming to suit the needs of the community, youth being served, according to grant requirements, and/or needs arising throughout the Club service area.
  • Supports improving safety effectiveness in all areas of Specialty programs; recommends modifications to improve safety, as appropriate.
  • Guides the Senior Director of Operations and the Maintenance Director in evaluating safety policies and programs. Jointly performs safety training and drills throughout the year with the individuals in those roles as well.
  • Define, implement, and update quality management systems (QMS) and standards aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
  • Plan and implement a staff development and safety training program.

Quality & Impact Management

  • Lead the organization’s quality assurance and impact measurement efforts.
  • Develop and implement systems to track program outcomes and youth progress.
  • Use data to inform decision-making and communicate impact to stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate system reviews and quality audits to ensure compliance with established standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work with department Directors to identify professional development needs and skill gaps, recommending and coordinating appropriate training and resources.

Resource Management and Budget:

  • Coordinate agency budget development, monitor and report variances in revenues and expenditures, including curriculum and program development and staff development.
  • Responsible for Specialty Program budgets.
  • Supervise, provide leadership, and manage performance of assigned staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, community relations and program operations.
  • Maintain contact with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America national office regarding programming grant reporting, and annual report requirements.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources to maximize program reach and effectiveness.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Program Oversight & Development

  • Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of all Specialty Programs (e.g., Athletics, Aquatics, CVMS, Culinary Arts, ROADs, YAA etc.) to ensure alignment with organizational goals and youth development outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors/ Managers to ensure consistent delivery of high-impact programming across locations.
  • Monitor program performance metrics and National Youth Outcomes Initiative (NYOI) scores to drive continuous improvement.

Partnership Development & Expansion:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and applicable Board committees.
  • Actively attends and participates in Special Events and fundraising activities.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations.
  • Cultivate and expand strategic partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and government agencies to enhance program offerings and support youth development.
  • Represent the organization in collaborative initiatives and community forums.

Grant Oversight & Compliance

  • Support with grant strategy, including identification of funding opportunities, proposal development, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and timely submission of deliverables.
  • Work closely with the grant team to align program goals with funding priorities.

Public Relations:

  • Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for Club programs, services and activities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to aid in development activities as needed.
  • Responsible for working effectively and professionally with Club staff, subordinates, Board Member, community groups and other related agencies.
  • Work closely with the CEO, Administrative and Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Qualified individuals will have a background that at a minimum reflects these achievements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, nonprofit management, or related sectors.
  • Prior experience with budget development and management.
  • Combination of education and related experience applicable.
