Overview

As the President & Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) in fulfilling its mission to enable all young people—especially those who need us most—to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will oversee the organization’s strategy, operations, and impact across multiple Clubs, ensuring the highest standards of safety, youth development, and community engagement. Your leadership will inspire staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to create great futures for kids and teens in the Greater Washington community. As a proof point, 54% of Club alumni said the Club saved their life, so the impact you and your team will have on these kid’s and teen’s lives will be life changing.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for all BGCGW operations, programs, and partnerships.
• Collaborate with and support the Board of Directors in setting organizational goals, developing policies, and ensuring alignment with the mission.
• Champion safety as a core organizational value by maintaining systems and standards that protect youth and staff, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with all membership requirements.
• Drive fundraising and resource development efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, corporations, foundations, and community partners.
• Ensure financial sustainability through sound fiscal management, compliance, and operational efficiency.
• Lead the recruitment, development, and performance management of a high-performing team of staff and volunteers.
• Demonstrate the ability to attract and secure Board members of significance, ensuring a strong and well-rounded Board of Directors that reflects a broad range of industries, experiences, and backgrounds important to BGCGW.
• Oversee the design and delivery of innovative youth programs that advance academic success, character development, and healthy lifestyles.
• Represent BGCGW in the community, serving as the chief ambassador and advocate for the organization’s mission and impact.
• Ensure compliance with standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and other affiliated and regulatory agencies.
• Engage in special projects or initiatives as assigned by the Board of Directors.


How you will work with others:
You will work closely with the Board of Directors, community leaders, donors, government officials, and peer organizations to strengthen partnerships and broaden the reach of BGCGW. Internally, you will collaborate with senior leadership, Club staff, and volunteers to promote accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.


Projects:
• Develop and execute strategic plans to expand program reach and deepen community impact.
• Lead major fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns to ensure long-term sustainability.
• Enhance safety, equity, and inclusion across all Clubs and programs.
• Foster a culture of performance, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Strong business and financial knowledge with the ability to translate data and metrics into strategic decisions.
• Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a diverse team across multiple locations.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills , with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated success in organization leadership, revenue generation and/or fundraising, and board relations.
• Commitment to innovation, accountability, and advancing the mission of youth development.
• Demonstrated skills and competency in the following areas preferred: the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations and of management; and resource development activities and sources of funding.

 

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; advanced degree preferred.
• Experience managing complex, multi-unit organizations with significant budgets and staff.
• Experience leading major fundraising and development efforts.
• Experience working with or managing a Board of Directors.
• Knowledge of youth development programs and nonprofit management principles.
• Advanced knowledge of financial management, asset management, and compliance standards.


The anticipated salary range for this position is $325,000 – $375,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
