Overview

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is seeking a Chief Executive Officer, to be based in Portland, ME. The CEO will lead overall planning and the execution of our expansion while providing leadership, direction and support to staff and Board of Directors. The CEO will be responsible for bringing the BGCSM mission to life in the community and will work to ensure kids and teens in their care have a safe, fun and engaging Club experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to guide and inform fundraising, program development, and growth that benefits the individuals, families and communities that the BGCSM serves.
  • Ensure responsible financial management and manage to the annual financial budget as well as long term revenue goals.
  • Grow revenue and fundraising to support current and new initiatives, as well as additional expansion and program development.
  • Advise the Board on organizational achievement of strategic objectives, significant trends in programming and funding, and important developments in communities BGCSM serves.
  • Maintains accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization.
  • Ensure that programs are aligned to mission, vision and community priorities.
  • Create a high level of teamwork, collaboration, and communication among staff Serves as the key external spokesperson of BGCSM in the local community and Maine.
  • Collaborates with Development Director to develop a communications and marketing strategy and promote the organization, and educate the public about the mission.

Qualifications

  • Passion for, and commitment to, the BGCSM mission.
  • Strategic and creative thought leader and problem solver with a solid understanding of the strategies needed to advance the work of a mission-based organization, from funding to mission delivery.
  • Inspirational and charismatic leader who will serve as the chief ambassador and fundraiser.
  • Fundamental understanding or experience in major gift cultivation, solicitation, and fundraising principles as they impact an organization.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, including a proven track record in leading and growing organizations.
  • Ability to set priorities decisively, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results.
  • Has previously worked closely and positively with large governing boards.
  • Possesses working knowledge of the legal, fiscal, and regulatory environment in which a nonprofit operates.
  • Strong business and budget management skills Skills and experience to manage and lead an organization with multiple facilities and more than 55 employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, an advanced degree in related field preferred.
  • Ability to commute to Portland, and locations in southern Maine Monday through Friday.
