Overview

The Unit/Branch Director is a mission-driven leader who manages the daily operations of a designated Unit/Club. This role is responsible for ensuring a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervising and developing staff, managing the Unit/Club’s budget, strengthening community relationships, supporting membership recruitment, actively engaging and supporting the Site Advisory Council/Board of Directors, and contributing to fundraising/grant writing efforts. This position provides leadership to the strategic planning process and oversees Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) membership requirements and DHS certification requirements. This role will lead with integrity, inspire a positive team culture, and help advance the organization’s impact on youth and families. 

Responsibilities

Leadership 

  • Establish Unit/Club programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.  
  • In partnership with the Program Coordinator, maintain and develop Unit programs ensuring that all club members have opportunities to participate in five (5) core areas. 
  • Oversee daily operations of Boys & Girls Club of the Perham Area.  
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment through facility management.  
  • Oversee Unit financial resources and assist in development and implementation of Unit’s annual budget  
  • Recruit, develop, supervise and motivate staff to achieve Club objectives and encourage regular member attendance  
  • Directly involved in hiring and conducts annual performance evaluations. Supervises all staff employed at the Boys & Girls Club of the Perham Area.  
  • Maintains regular communication with members and families to provide behavioral support, guidance, and counsel. 
  • Ensures compliance with BGCA membership standards to maintain a safe and supportive environment. 
  • Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on stated goals; recommend modifications to improve program quality, as appropriate 

 

Club Programming 

  • Ensure programming supports priority outcomes by working with key staff to create curriculum and learning opportunities  
  • Keep information of Club programming current  
  • In partnership with other staff, create new programs and opportunities within the Club and with Community partners. 

 

Certification & Membership Requirements 

  • Ensures BGCA membership requirements and MN DHS Certification requirements are met; act as point of contact for DHS Certification. 
  • Annually, train staff on policy and procedures and maintain records of training 
  • Support safety committee ensuring all BGCA membership requirements are met. 
  • Lead continuous quality improvement plan through development and evaluation, BGCA meetings, creation of new programs and initiatives, surveys and observations. 
  • Initiate and monitor background studies. 
  • Ensure programming supports BGCA priority outcomes by working with key staff to create curriculum and learning opportunities. 

 

Resource & Budget Management 

  • Manage Unit financial resources assisting in the development of annual budgets with the Executive Director and Finance committee. Control expenditure against budget.  
  • Purchase and approve purchase of supplies and equipment  
  • Recruit, manage, and provide career development opportunities for Unit staff. Conduct staff meetings on a regular basis as compliant with needs of development and program success. 
  • Assist in the administration of restricted programs and grants by overseeing program operations at each location; ensure the completion of required reports; and preparation of any required interagency reports.  

 

Partnership & Public Relations Development  

  • Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for club programs, services and activities  
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other community organizations, members and families  

 

Strategic Planning 

  • Assist in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Unit’s overall programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and members’ needs/interests. Compile regular reports reflecting activity involvement, attendance, and participation. Support goals and objectives of Council and Board strategic planning/goals 

 

Professional Development 

  • Attend annual off-site development applicable to job responsibilities 
  • Monthly, participate in development applicable to job responsibilities 

 

Additional Responsibilities  

  • Communicate with families important programming dates, newsletters and highlights of programs (newsletters, front lobby display, parent/guardian communication, etc.) 
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.  
  • Provide support in programming and operations 
  • Provide mission-focused stories/highlights 
  • Ensure the completion of required reports 
  • Serve as point of contact for Lakes Computer for transferring of laptops/computers when people leave the agency  
  • Adheres to the organizational chain of command while maintaining professional conduct, upholding confidentiality, and following all organizational policies and procedures 
  • Assuming other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

  • Prompt & Reliable Attendance 
  • Valid driver’s license  
  • Bachelor's degree in youth-centered field 
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization setting, preferably in a Unit/Branch Director role 
  • Knowledge of youth development 
  • Excellent leadership skills required 
  • Ability to supervise and motivate professional staff and volunteers 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing and verbally to persons of all levels 
  • The ability and desire to work with youth in a variety of recreational and social environments 
  • Should be physically fit to engage in Club programs when necessary 
  • Possess the ability to work independently and efficiently without direct supervision 
  • Must pass a background check
