We are searching for the first President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Charlotte Region (BGCCR), a trailblazing leader ready to start-up a new Boys & Girls Club organization in one of America’s fastest-growing, most vibrant cities and the largest community in the US without a Boys & Girls Club presence The successful candidate will lead the execution of the initial business plan, creating and implementing the overall operating systems for the corporation and elevating the brand to youth, families, investors and the broader community. • 1 in 7 children in Charlotte live in poverty, compared to the national average of 1 in 10 children (U.S. Census Bureau, 2023).
• 1 in 6 teens in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District (CMSD) drop out of high school, higher than the national dropout rate of 1 in 9 teens (NCES, 2023).
• 19% of teens report suicidal thoughts (2021 High School Youth Risk Behavior Survey), compared to the national rate of 14% (CDC, 2021).
• As of June 30, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported nearly 1,700 juvenile arrests, reflecting a 12% year-over-year increase. 61% of these arrests were repeat offenders, highlighting systemic gaps in intervention and rehabilitation.

You’ll help reverse these trends by leading a Movement rooted in access and opportunity. Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. You will be responsible for bringing this mission to life in the Charlotte region, as you work to ensure that the youth in your care achieve great futures by providing a safe and fun space, engaging Club Experiences, and managing caring professionals to guide them along the way. As President & CEO, you’ll be the driving force behind the organization’s success!
• Guides, supports and partners with the Board of Directors in establishing goals and
developing policies, procedures, budgets and programs that fulfill the mission of the Boys &
Girls Club.
• Monitors and approves the organization’s program services and assures achievement of its
mission and goals.
• Provides leadership to Club staff by developing administrative and operational standards by
which goals will be met.
• Assures attainment and management of resources necessary to ensure the financial
operations of the organization are conducted in accordance with applicable local, state and
federal laws.
• Demonstrates that safety is a core value, ensures that the management system conforms
with membership requirements and industry standards and is actively engaged in the safety
improvement process.
• Ensures the organization meets all membership standards and compliance requirements
set by Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as other affiliated and regulatory bodies.
Establish clear safety standards and metrics, provide annual training, and proactively
identify and address potential risks through mitigation strategies.
• Oversees staffing activities of the organization, including recruiting, training, and evaluation
of both paid and volunteer staff.
• Promotes Boys & Girls Club services to individuals, other service organizations, and the
local community.
• Directs and participates in public relations and fundraising activities.
• Provides leadership to the Board of Directors to assure the development of an effective and
motivated Board, including identification, recruitment, selection, onboarding and training to
ensure the involvement of board members in meeting the performance and financial goals
of the organization.
• May periodically be assigned special projects by the Board of Directors.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations in a multi-unit
organization.
• Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to speak effectively and
persuasively to groups and individuals.
• Demonstrated competency and ability in establishing and maintaining effective working
relationships with a Board of Directors, Staff, Community Groups, and other related
agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise professionals and other staff/volunteers who may be in
distant subunits of the organization.
• Advanced knowledge and expertise in asset management including financial resources and
property.
• Comfort navigating ambiguity while building long-term strategy from the ground up.
• Proven track record in securing major gifts, building donor pipelines, and engaging
corporate and foundation partners or generating revenue in a for-profit environment
• Demonstrated skills and competency in the following areas preferred: the mission,
objectives, policies, programs and procedures of a business; a deep understanding of the
principles and practices of non-profit organization governance and management
• Demonstrated proficiency in resource development and generating revenue from a variety
of sources, including individuals, corporations, foundations, government, etc.
