Position: Director of Operations
Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer
Directly Supervises: Program Leadership Team, including a Director and Site Leaders (~4)
Indirectly Supervises: Youth Development Professionals and Leads (~45)
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Hiring Range: $90,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually, paid biweekly.
Location: Primarily works out of offices at The Place, with regular, local travel to our other Club sites
For over 25 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, Minnesota has been making positive impacts in the lives of kids and teens. Today, we’re proud to have 4 amazing Club sites - 1 in a traditional Clubhouse and 3 school-based Clubhouses - all offering out-of-school programs designed to meet unique educational and health needs. We currently serve around 500 children and teens (aka members) and their families (aka caregivers), with an average daily participation of about 300 – and we’re on track to continue growing!
The Director of Operations will be the executive responsible for bringing Club’s programs and initiatives to life. That means leading safe and impactful programs, providing strong operational and human resources management, connecting with the community, developing staff, and keeping a close eye on financials.
Program and Operational Leadership
Oversee program development to create high-impact experiences that meet the diverse needs of our diverse members, while ensuring Clubs are a safe and nurturing setting – for members, caregivers, and staff alike.
Champion strategic priorities, focusing on boosting program quality and capacity.
Create and maintain operational policies and best practices that support Club’s effectiveness and positive youth development outcomes.
Manage operational budgets and oversee financial planning.
Be data-driven, using organizational measurement tools to guide decision-making.
People and Culture
Supervise Program Leadership Staff, providing direction, mentorship, and support.
Closely monitor program and ensure necessary labor controls are in place.
Lead professional development efforts for program staff, particularly focusing on efforts that increase program quality and skillsets.
Manage basic HR functions, including escalated employee relations matters and benefit support.
Be familiar with recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes, and provide leadership and support as needed.
Partnerships and Community
Support Site Leaders with escalated member and caregiver needs.
Strengthen community partnerships with schools, businesses, and local organizations.
Partner with Club’s Resource Development team on grant administration, donor relations, and capital campaigns.
Represent Club at public events, fundraising activities, and community outreach programs.
Oversee the volunteer engagement strategy, making sure volunteers are seamlessly integrated into Club programming.
Stay engaged in state, regional, and national Boys & Girls Clubs initiatives.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) policies.
Maintain accurate records related to membership, safety, programming, training, and operational compliance.
Be familiar with all organizational insurance requirements.
21+ years or older
A four-year degree or equivalent experience
8-10+ years of experience in progressive leadership roles within youth development organizations
A knack for leading staff and handling challenging situations with grace
Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written.
Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods (we’re active and hands-on!)
Able to lift up to 30 lbs (have we mentioned we’re active?)
Reliable transportation to Club sites
Bonus Points If You Have:
Prior leadership experience with Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organizations.
Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Salesforce (yep, we’re a MyClubHub Club), or any applicant tracking systems.
