Overview

Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue (BGCB) has an exciting opportunity for an inaugural Director of Individual Giving. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors of $25K+. The Director should have at least 5 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, knowledge of funders in the region, and the local philanthropic landscape. The Director is responsible for ensuring major gifts revenue increases year over year. Together with the CDO, they will develop systems, metrics, and reports for a thriving individual giving program for BGCB. On occasion, the Director will participate in external affairs as it relates to Club priorities. 

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Work with the CDO to implement and realize annual goals and objectives for the major giving program.  

    Establish and lead Individual Giving program, focusing on expanding the donations Boys & Girls Clubs receives from individual donors.

    Implement a coordinated moves management matrix of communication, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies focused on closing major gifts to support BGCB’s funding priorities.

    Manage a portfolio of 85-125 current and prospective individual donors.

    Complete 15-20 substantive donor engagements per month with the goal of soliciting major and planned gifts; document with contact reports and maintain accurate, comprehensive records in the donor database. 

    Conduct visits, other high-level interactions, and personal solicitations with prospects, documenting actions as appropriate.  Prepare correspondence and proposals.

    Plan and participate in development events such as our Champions of Youth Gala and Auction.

    Work with the CDO and Donor Data Manager to create the infrastructure for an individual giving program, such as pipeline/engagement reports and KPIs.

    Actively contribute to the strategic planning for the development team.

    Regularly provide updates on the progress of the individual giving program.

    Proactively provide strategic counsel to the CDO.

    Articulate the BGCB mission, goals, and stories in a persuasive communication style, with well-honed relationship-building acumen, both verbally and in writing.

    Adhere to the highest ethical standards.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Minimum of 2 years of successful experience in major gift fundraising, securing 5 and 6-figure gifts; or equivalent experience in portfolio and relationship management resulting in significant investments. 

    Exceptional relationship manager with proven track record and knowledge of funders in the region.

    Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.

    Expert knowledge of, and experience with, the AFP Fundraising Code of Ethics to align with ethical fundraising and best industry practices

    Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.

    Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to develop effective engagement and solicitation strategies for a diverse group of individual donors.

    Ability to track progress and report results with accuracy.

    Ability to handle difficult situations with grace, diplomacy, and flexibility

    Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.

    Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.

    High degree of initiative with excellent, independent follow through

    Knowledge of techniques and sources for prospect research

    Deep understanding of Club values and mission

    Ability to create structure in an ambiguous environment. The ability to understand, express and exchange complex ideas in a fast-paced environment

    Stellar time and project management and problem-solving ability

    Ability to interact effectively and in a professional manner with a wide array of people at all levels of the organization

    Self-motivated, organized and goal-oriented team player, capable of managing several projects at once.  Meets deadlines consistently

    Must be willing to travel throughout Bellevue and Club locations. 

    All staff are required to undergo training, which includes but is not limited to topics related to safety, emergency response and child abuse prevention

    Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
