Overview

  • The Director of Development at the Boys & Girls Club of Central Carolina works with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. This role supports leadership in cultivating and soliciting major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies, and other entities. Additionally, the Director of Development provides leadership and direction to staff supporting resource development and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to executive leadership and the Board of Directors to ensure effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver impactful programs in the Central Carolina region.

Strategic Planning

Collaborate with executive leadership and the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan for resource development initiatives:

  • Research and analyze the donor base (individuals, corporations, foundations) and recommend tailored solicitation strategies.
  • Prepare and present proposals for corporate and foundation support using up-to-date cultivation materials.
  • Oversee logistics planning for special events, including sponsorship acquisition, solicitation of gifts, and preparation of promotional materials.
  • Design and implement direct mail campaigns tailored to the Central Carolina community.
  • Provide support for various fundraising projects/initiatives, such as endowments, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Evaluate development activities and identify opportunities for improvement.

Board Development

  • Identify, recruit, and train board members to participate in solicitation and income development activities.
  • Support board committees responsible for planning and executing development activities.

Resource Management

  • Participate in the development and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget, ensuring expenditures are controlled and donor/financial records meet organizational standards.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all development staff.

Partnership Development

  • Build strategic alliances with local community leaders and officials in the Central Carolina region.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth-serving organizations, families, funders, and community organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Increase visibility of the Club’s development activities in Central Carolina and maintain positive public relations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the design and production of public relations materials for fundraising and public education, including press releases and marketing documents.

RELATIONSHIPS:

**Internal:** Maintain open communication with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to exchange information, report progress, and coordinate events.
**External:** Foster relationships with other organizations, business leaders, community groups, and media outlets for information exchange and fundraising purposes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • A minimum of three years nonprofit experience, specifically in fundraising and sales/marketing, or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising techniques and funding sources for nonprofits
  • Familiarity with the Boys & Girls Club mission, objectives, and programs, as well as principles of youth development
  • Proven ability to organize and coordinate fundraising operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, and community partners..
  • Experience with donor database management systems.
