Overview

The Chief Development Officer is the primary fundraising professional of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa. The Chief Development Officer is a key leadership position, providing oversight, coordination and goal setting to develop and implement revenue generating strategies. This includes identification, cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective donors to foster long-term relationships with BGCCI. The Chief Development Officer must be a sophisticated relationship-builder who is able to adapt communication styles to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders with multiple priorities, including the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, Staff, and a diverse donor prospect pool. This role is responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies that ensures a diversified funding model to support BGCCI programs and services. The Chief Development Officer manages communications, public relations, marketing and online functions for the organization including staff in these areas.

 

With guidance from the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer supports the CEO’s efforts in resource development and donor relations. This role manages BGCCI’s fundraising resources, including resource development staff and fundraising budget.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a support person for the resource development committee, and primarily the CEO
  • Facilitate and implement a multi-purpose development plan that supports BGCCI’s mission, and incorporates annual giving, major and planned gifts, corporate and foundation grants, and special events
  • Participate in developing the annual operating budget, and oversee the progress of meeting revenue goals
  • Develop and monitor strategic goals and objectives for resource development
  • Seek out and develop innovative funding partnerships with organizations that further the goals of BGCCI
  • Implement donor-related activities for the Annual Fund Campaign
  • Manage and continually evaluate systems of identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement and stewardship of donors
  • Ensure donor retention
  • Develop and maintain advanced donor management and analysis systems
  • Coordinate special event strategies for a variety of events designed to cultivate current donors and attract new donors
  • Set the standard for effective leadership and management by maintaining a high level of ethics, prudence, productivity and professionalism
  • Participate in meetings of the local fund-raising associations and estate planning councils
  • Oversee gift acknowledgment and donor recognition programs
  • When appropriate, represent BGCCI at public events and present to donor groups, civic groups, and at other special events

  • Ensure supervisor is informed of any recurring or significant problems in a timely manner

  • Valid Iowa State Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of five years’ experience fundraising through direct solicitations, annual fund campaigns and special events in not-for-profit sector. Fundraising accreditation preferred. Demonstrated track record of fundraising success and direct involvement in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. Experience should include supervision of staff and volunteers. Superior writing, editing and verbal communications skills necessary. Able to manage multiple priorities and be attentive to details.
