Overview

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To generate income through fundraising activities including targeting foundations, corporations, and individual donors within the community as well as management of special events and an annual campaign. Manage all foundation and corporate grant requests, marketing, and public relations activities and stewardship of donors and volunteers.

 

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

  1. Work with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop goals and strategies related to fundraising, marketing, and special events to build a culture of philanthropy.
  2. Oversee the resource development for all Boys & Girls Club branches.
  3. Directly supervise Resource Development Directors in regard to their overall performance, development, needs and assist in their goal achievement.
  4. Train staff, board members, and volunteers in resource development / planned giving techniques. Serves as information resource on fundraising activities.

 

Strategic Planning

  1. Working collaboratively with the CEO, Administrative Staff, and Board to develop and organize an annual Resource Development Plan and calendar to coordinate all fundraising and marketing activities that maximizes resources and results.
  2. Work with CEO and Board to research and identify individual prospects for solicitations to increase donor base. Prepare background reports on donor giving and interests and develops proposals for donor consideration.
  3. Develop guidelines for fundraising, marketing campaigns and planned giving.
  4. Work with CEO and Board to evaluate overall results of Resource Development Plan and recommend modifications or new approaches to support successful achievement of development goals.

 

 

Resource Development/Planned Giving

 

  1. Collaborate with CEO, Board, and key staff/volunteers to develop proposals and engage them in donor solicitations, based on donor interests, personal relationships, program expertise, or other criteria.
  2. Manage the planning and implementation of special event and fundraising activities.
  3. Manage record keeping for planned gift donors, assuring effective administrative and operational support functions are in place. Manage donor database.
  4. Keep current with laws, statues, planned giving materials and BGC literature.
  5. Write grant proposals for foundation and corporate support as needed.
  6. Develop annual stewardship plan to assure proper acknowledgement of all gifts.

 

Partnership Development

  1. Develop strategic partnerships with donors, community leaders, organizations and others with an interest in resource development activities.

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.
  2. Create materials to promote upcoming events and programs to public including flyers, posters, brochures, public service announcements, monthly newsletter, etc.
  3. Conduct face-to-face presentations.
  4. Prepare correspondence, proposals, and reports as outlined in the Resource Development / Stewardship Plan.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee web site maintenance and content.
  2. Oversee and update social media content.
  3. Recruits and cultivates volunteers as needed to assist in special event and fundraising activities.
  4. Assume other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Maintains oral and written contact with the CEO, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, provide direction and advise/counsel.

External:  Maintain oral and written contact with external groups, donors, prospects, alumni, media, and others to achieve program goals and objectives, manage costs, share information, and resolve problems, as well as for obtaining referrals and help in solving technical issues.  Frequent contact with community members to maintain current knowledge in field and to discuss donor interests and appropriate giving methods.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted tasks in conjunction with the

day-to-day activities.  Superior interpersonal abilities.  Ability to get along with diverse

personalities, tactful, mature and flexible.  Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years work experience in relevant fund-raising activities and a proven track record of accomplishment in this area.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all types of people.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, board, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of accessing and utilizing donor data base.
  • Working knowledge of grant preparation, reporting, and solicitation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
