Overview

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Seymour, Jennings County, & Brownstown serves two dynamic and rapidly growing counties in South Central Indiana: Jackson & Jennings Counties. Each county offers unique characteristics, a strong sense of community, and an array of opportunities for personal and professional growth. In 2023 we served over 1,500 members in six clubs across the two counties and is one of the fastest growing Club organizations in the state.


This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Boys & Girls Clubs of Seymour’s legacy unit as the Unit Director (UD). We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of success in staff management, operations management, program development, community relations, and facility management.


The Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Unit Director will be responsible for continuing to bring this mission to life in the community, ensuring that the kids and teens in our care achieve great futures. This role includes providing a safe and fun space, creating an engaging Club Experience, and managing caring professionals to guide the youth along the way.

Responsibilities

Staff Management: Oversee all recruiting, hiring, training, discipline, and evaluation of staff and volunteers in your unit. Keeping up to date files on all staff and volunteers to be sure they all have current trainings and certifications in conjunction with the Director of Impact. Conduct regular meetings with staff to ensure proper and timely communication of critical information and for facilitation of ongoing planning, problem solving, and discussion associated with operations. Ensure proper monitoring and tracking regarding site operations including scheduling, time management, and hours worked. Work in partnership with leadership to develop training topics and schedules that assist staff in achieving required skills as well as other training opportunities for personal and organizational advancement. Responsible for monitoring staff training requirements and ensures staff attends required trainings. Conduct ongoing performance evaluation process for all direct reports and submit performance reviews annually. Maintains excellent working relationships with staff, volunteers and the public.


Operations Management: Build positive relationships with youth, volunteers, parents, schools, and community. Develop and maintain positive Club culture by ensuring a healthy and safe environment. Responsible for ensuring daily maintenance & ongoing upkeep of unit’s equipment, facilities, and vehicles. Establish Unit programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates implementation Formula for Impact (FFI) framework and achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. Developing and overseeing Club and community special events at your unit and in collaboration with other units. Compile priority outcomes and other data such as Average Daily Attendance (ADA), program participation, and other deliverables. Assist with preparing information for reporting purposes when necessary. Give consideration to community programming that helps our kids and families achieve our mission.

 

Program Development: Develop with the Director of Impact and program staff a plan aimed at age groups served and insuring maximum utilization of the Club sites. Schedule programs in accordance with Club hours, school hours and tailor them to all age groups. Supervise Club personnel, members, volunteer, and Club facilities. Evaluate programs on a regular basis including the NYOI (National Youth Outcomes Initiative) and FFI (Formula for Impact Assessment) to ensure programs are having a positive impact on members and the community. Use evidence based, evidence informed and locally created programs to maximize impact during our hours.

 

Community & Public Relations: Attends community meetings as a representative of the Boys & Girls Club and speaks on behalf of the organization when requested to do so. Work closely with other social agencies and schools in order to strengthen and provide more effective services to our youth. The Unit Director is responsible for the Club’s publicity of programs and special events. They advise the Director of Impact on their plans for publicity and promotion.

 

Facility Management: Manage the needs of the facility in conjunction with the organization’s facility committee. Ensure that the master plan is taken into consideration on facility repairs as needed. Utilize shut down time to prioritize large repairs and maintenance to ensure minimal stoppage in program delivery. Includes management of the grounds which includes over 4 acres of land.

Qualifications

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience required
• 3 or more years of work experience in a management role in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organization
• Proven leadership skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and delegation.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Experience in supervising professionals and volunteers
• Ability to work at a rapid pace and where frequent interruptions may occur
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to operate Club vehicles

 

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a competitive benefits package which includes Health, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, and Life Insurance. As well as a matching Roth 401(k) retirement program upon meeting eligibility requirements. Generous paid time off. Relocation stipend is available for candidates who qualify.
