Overview

Directs the organizational-wide operations of a broad range of programs, with broad oversight of program activities. Plans, develops, oversees implementation and supervises programs and program staff and perform administrative duties. 

Responsibilities

Program (40%):  In conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement [SDOCE], plans and oversees the administration and analysis of organizational-wide program curriculum and activities that support Boys & Girls Club Movements Youth Development Strategy:

  • Ensures that programs meet The Salvation Army (TSA) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) program quality and compliance expectations.
  • Establishes objectives consistent with organizational goals and missions.
  • Responsible for the administration of programs by overseeing programs and training at each Club site; ensure the completion of required reports [particularly for grant/restricted funded programs]; and prepare any required interagency reports.
  • Serves as the lead for program quality issues, coaching, training and respond accordingly.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement and Club Directors to establish program and training needs.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement, onboard and train staff on an ongoing basis to ensure a prepared and engaged program staff to meet current needs of youth and funding requirements.
  • Help plan and implement a staff development and training program in collaboration with the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement and the Club team.
  • Assist Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement in building and maintaining partnerships with other youth-serving organizations, members, parents, families, and community organizations.
  • Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for Club programs, services, and activities.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensures that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
  • Work with SDOCE monthly to review and update the supplies, equipment, and curriculum needed to carry out programs safely and effectively.
  • Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.

 

Establishes and maintains organizational-wide program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensures that Club staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated, and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in good working condition.

  • Responsible for conducting regular Club visits including observations of programs and services, staff practices, and compliance with safety procedures and policies; provide report to the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement and to the Club team.

 

Strategic Planning (15%):

  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.

 

Resource Management (15%):

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget, ensuring that organizational-wide programs and activities are operated within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, recruit, select and manage assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring productive and effective performance. Provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal; identify and support professional development opportunities.
  • Oversees proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

 

Partnership Development (15%):

  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement, develop collaborative partnerships with other youth-serving organizations, members, parents, families, and community organizations.

 

Marketing and Public Relations (10%):

  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations & Community Engagement, increase the visibility of Club programs via posting of the daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events, and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, and media releases.

Relationships (5%):

  • Create and maintain positive relationships with Area Commander, Executive Director, Command leadership team, club staff, board/council members, donors, vendors, partners, and community agencies/partners.
  • Demonstrate and display respect for Area Commander, Executive Director, Command leadership team, club staff, board/council members, donors, vendors, partners, and community agencies/partners.
  • Always represent The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in a positive and professional manner.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with all areas of the club and senior leadership team to be successful in this position.
    • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff, Club members and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions: instruct and advise/counsel
    • External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member’s parents and others to assist in resolving conflicts.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May oversee special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other activities as necessary.
  • May be required to drive a Club vehicle.
  • May consult with parents concerning members and Club issues.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated advanced program skills and administrative ability to design, offer and evaluate youth development programs and services. 
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to the educational and psychological issues affecting disadvantaged youth and have displayed a belief, understanding and commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs philosophy. 
  • Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club) is an advantage. 
  • Advanced knowledge of program evaluation, data reporting systems, and performance management systems related to youth development programs.
  • Advanced use and understanding of outcome-based programming.
  • Demonstrated past success in collaborating with fundraising teams to implement programs and projects to meet and surpass donor and funding entity expectations. 
  • Experience in successfully meeting deliverables for performance. 
  • Proven past success in meeting both fiscal and administrative requirements of grants (both governmental and private).  

 

Position Requirements (include, but are not limited to):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Social Work, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Clubs or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Considerable knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; of the practices and principles of non-profit organizations.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, subordinates, Advisory Board/Council members, community groups and other related agencies.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
