Overview

This position is primarily responsible for following and assisting in Squash practice plans, preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate programs and activities, and facilitating and assisting in individual practice plans. In addition to ensuring the emotional and physical safety of groups of 5 to 15 members, the Squash & Fitness Assistant is responsible for delivering the optimal Club experience for members, embracing the Club's mission and core values, developing healthy and supportive relationships with Club members, and modeling academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship with youth.

Responsibilities

  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Priority Outcomes (Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship) and promotes program participation.
  • Facilitate practices and activities indoors and outdoors with a minimum of 5 to 15 members ranging from ages of Kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Provide appropriate supervision by being vigilant of members in program areas, monitoring equipment and supplies
  • Set clear boundaries with members by enforcing Club rules and policies and ensuring compliance while fostering an inclusive environment
  • Enforce all safety precautions and ensure that equipment is maintained in an appropriate manner
  • Continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members
  • Report concerns relating to the members, families, staff or facilities to Unit Director, Squash Coordinator & Fitness Specialist, or Lead Program Coordinator
  • Maintain positive relationships with members and their parents and/or guardians 
  • Mediate medium to mild behavior issues with confidence while providing guidance and role modeling
  • Transport members (via Club vehicles) to occasional tournaments and community court events on weekdays/weekends
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and community members
  • Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner while maintaining a positive environment
  • Ability and willingness to learn Squash and other racket sports
  • Coaching experience preferred but not required
 
 
Education and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license required 
  • Minimum 3 years of driving experience with a clean driving record 
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to acquire certification upon hire)
  • Youth development experience with kids ages 5-18 preferred
