Overview

The director of donor engagement is primarily responsible for cultivating and stewarding existing and new donors and gifts that support the organization’s long-term sustainability. The position supports a variety of development efforts for special organization needs. Managing responsibilities such as individual donor meetings, fundraising-focused marketing, and donor relations, the director of donor engagement is an integral part of the resource development team.
 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the chief development officer to develop, implement, and manage multi-year, multi-million dollar fundraising and stewardship strategies that support long-term Club needs
  • Create, manage, and implement annual marketing strategies to increase Club visibility, widen donor reach, and broaden brand awareness
  • Support various fundraising projects and initiatives such as special campaigns, lifetime giving, and bequests
  • Create and facilitate volunteer and recognition opportunities for targeted donors and donor groups
  • Engage volunteers in donor prospecting, cultivation, stewardship, retention, and growth
  • Meet one-on-one with existing and prospect donors both at the Club and in the community
  • Work with resource development team to coordinate strategic community partnerships and cultivate special gifts
  • Work with operations and finance departments to prepare proposals and other donor-focused materials that accurately communicate Club needs and funding impact
  • Interpret and articulate financial and programmatic data to diverse and sophisticated donors
  • Prepare and execute presentations for donor and prospect audiences
  • Report progress at resource development committee and rural and corporate board meetings as requested 
  • Attend and support special events
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organization culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Commitment to the Boys & Girls Club mission
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience demonstrating competency and success in high net worth donor engagement and gift procurement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Relationship and volunteer management
  • Marketing experience, with a focus on donor communication
  • Clear understanding of non-profit financial and gift tracking processes
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire internal and external constituents across the organization including staff, Club members, donors, volunteers, community partners, vendors, and others
  • Savvy interpersonal skillset to effectively communicate with a variety of donor groups and individuals
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team, and to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and projects, and meet deadline-driven projects 
  • Strong organization and management skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of gift processing and acknowledgement practices
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Publisher, Adobe software (or similar programs), Canva, and Abila Fundraising 50 (or similar development software) is a plus
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as appropriate
  • Transportation capabilities to multiple Club and community sites
 
Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
