Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Manage volunteer recruitment, screening, training, and program activities for all daily volunteers, corporate volunteers, and events volunteers.  Monitor volunteer programs and coordinate volunteer activities in all locations and special events.

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

  1. Establish and implement policies and procedures for volunteer recruitment, selection, training and participation in organization events and activities.

Strategic Planning

  1. Contribute to operational strategic planning by identifying opportunities for volunteer participation, then recruiting, selecting and training volunteers to assist in implementing program activities.
  2. Identifies potential sources of volunteers and develop proactive strategies to recruit volunteers with needed skills.
  3. Conduct evaluation of volunteer activities and participation, refining selection and training activities to ensure a high level of satisfaction by volunteers and staff.

Resource Management

  1. Control expenses related to volunteer programs and activities within budget.
  2. Manage administrative and operational systems to support volunteer programs.
  3. Maintains volunteer tracking software.  Create and prepares statistical reports as necessary.
  4. Develop and implement regular orientation of volunteers. Provide training to B&GC staff on effective volunteer management.
  5. Recruit and manage volunteer outreach staff, providing performance standards, feedback, appraisal and professional development opportunities.
  6. Maintain volunteer files and background checks.  Coordinates with the HR Department to ensure background checks are completed. 
  7. Create and manage a reward and recognition program for individual and corporate volunteers.

Partnership Development

  1. Develop collaborative relationships with other organizations supporting volunteerism or serving as potential sources for volunteers.
  2. Act as liaison with neighborhood and community groups to enhance community relations.
  3. Creates and coordinates projects with groups and corporate volunteers, including United Way's Days of Caring.  
  4. Maintains ongoing relationships with volunteers and corporate volunteers to ensure positive experiences and opportunities for feedback.

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Coordinate special events (such as community volunteer resource fairs, agency fairs, Adopt-A-Family) and organization-wide activities to increase awareness of existing and new volunteer programs and to recognize volunteers.
  2. Participates in speaking engagements for corporate partners, United Way and educational partners to engage additional volunteers. 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Maintain oral and written contact with the executives, staff, and volunteers in order to provide direction and technical advice. Recruits and cultivates volunteers by participating in meetings, speaking engagements and community events.

External:  Maintain contact with external organizations and community groups serving as a resource for volunteer recruitment and selection. 

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. 
  • A minimum of two years work experience in a service organization, with emphasis on volunteer programs and activities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with good public presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge (Blackbaud) Software a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all types of people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record, and consistent access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical requirements: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.  Ability to write reports and correspondence.  The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts and or technical information with others. The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee will occasionally need to operate a motor vehicle.  Work environment:  Normal office environment.
