Overview

Under the supervision of the Area Director, the Branch Director directs and manages overall daily operations of the designated BGCCV (Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley) Branch with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff (direct and indirect reports), handles personnel issues, facilities management, develops and manages a budget, manges community relationships, volunteers, and membership administration. Safety is the #1 priority of the Club, and the Branch Director leads that effort.

 

As part of a world-class, outcome-driven Club Experience, the Branch Director ensures that the Club offers dynamic, well-rounded programs and close, nurturing relationships with trusted adult staff and volunteers. The result is that members of all ages are encouraged to attend the Club more often, participate more deeply, and remain involved as they navigate the transitions from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to young adulthood.

 

The Branch Director demonstrates and instills the values and behaviors that creates and maintains the optimal Club experience for both members and staff. The Branch Director serves as the “soul” of the Branch location and through their deeds and actions provides a positive example for others to emulate.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  1. Establish Unit or Branch programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes.
  2. Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with well-maintained facilities, equipment and supplies.

Strategic Planning

  1. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Unit or Branch overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.

Resource Management

  1. Manage Unit or Branch financial resources, assisting in the development of annual budgets. Control expenditures against budget.
  2. Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club’s physical properties and equipment, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies.
  3. Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.

Partnership Development

  1. Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. May manage special programs and/or events and/or participate in other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community.
  2. Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire.
  3. Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing concerning Branch programs and goals.
  4. Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, set up of AV equipment, etc.
  5. Will be a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club.
  6. Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.
  7. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  8. Assume other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Due to the relationships with members, staff, and volunteers, a minimum of 2 years’ commitment to the role is highly recommended. Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain, or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

 

External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.

 

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of five years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management
  • Skilled at fundraising events
  • Effective communication skills, understanding of group dynamics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment use (projectors, screens, televisions, security systems etc.).
  • Experience using video development software and other software.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record.
  • Ability to learn and teach teamwork, sportsmanship, good character, and citizenship.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Use of hands and upper extremities to type and operate computers.
  2. Manual dexterity to repair equipment.
  3. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds.
  4. Ability to sit, stand and walk to supervise members.
  5. Noise level in work environment varies from quiet to very noisy based on attendance.
  6. Supervision of large, medium, and small groups is required. BGCCV staff ratio is 1 adult per 20 members.
