Overview

The Staff Accountant works under the direction of the Controller to support the financial accounting needs of the organization and ensure a sound financial organization.  The Staff Accountant supports the AR Accountant in reconciling revenue from various sources including clubs, government agencies and private foundations.   S/he supports Accounts Payable by assisting with bimonthly bill payments and other accounting-related activities.  S/he also works with the Grant Accountant with reporting and monitoring of Federal, State, and Private Grants.  

Responsibilities

  • Support Grant Accountant with Federal, State, and Private Grant reporting and tracking to ensure proper coding to GL of expenses and revenues.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the accounts payable function including, but not limited to: setting up vendors, collecting W-9s, entering vendor invoices, and employee expenses.
  • Review and reconcile various vendor accounts and credit cards.
  • Support A/R Accountant with recording revenue from individual sites as submitted on the Daily Deposit forms from the various site locations.
  • Compile and maintain all site Contracts and Insurance documents and track renewal dates and work with vendors and/or directors as needed.
  • Prepare internal and external reports as required to ensure that all timing requirements are met and that appropriate records are kept for the annual audit.
  • Assist with Annual Audit and Budget Processes.
  • Provide support to other team members as requested and directed.
  • Sort and distribute daily mail. Research all AP vendor statements that come in and request copies of invoices if needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting with 2 plus years’ experience working in an accounting field with a sound understanding of debits, credits and general ledger.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and especially strong in Excel worksheets and formulas.
  • Ability to recommend accounting problem resolutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive outside agency and interdepartmental working relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a significant detail-orientation and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and materials.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.
