Overview

TITLE: Director of Finance

 

OVERVIEW: 

Oversees and manages all financial functions including: accounting, payroll, financial operations, property management, professional insurance coverage, legal requirements, donor records, policies and procedures, and supporting software. 

 

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

 

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, salaried exempt  

 

SALARY: $70,000-$94,000, commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership

  • Oversee payroll process ensuring compliance with all employment laws.
  • Coordinate all audit processes demonstrating compliance with General Accounting Principles.
  • Partner with Programs and Operations staff to reconcile billing and accounting systems.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with organization’s financial management policies.
  • Lead staff Liaison to Board of Directors Finance Committee and staff support role for Operations Committee.

Strategic Planning:

  • Financial Analysis and Forecasting: Analyzing the organization's financial performance and predicting future financial outcomes. This involves using historical data to forecast future financial scenarios, which is crucial for long-term strategic planning.
  • Budget Development and Management: Creating and managing budgets that align with the strategic goals of the organization. This includes ensuring costs are within budget and appropriately expensed to funding sources, as mentioned in the provided job description​​.
  • Resource Allocation: In partnership with the CEO, allocate resources effectively to support strategic initiatives. This involves making decisions about where to invest the organization's finances to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and managing financial risks that could impact the organization's strategic goals. This includes analyzing potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Financial Reporting and Communication: Providing clear and accurate financial reports to stakeholders, including executive leadership and the board. This is key for informed decision-making in strategic planning.
  • Compliance and Control: Ensuring that the organization complies with financial regulations and standards. This includes maintaining control over financial processes to avoid any legal or ethical issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Working with various stakeholders, including department heads and Finance Committee members, to align financial strategy with the overall goals of the organization.

Resource Management:

  • Manage and track operating expenses and income.  Ensure all costs are within budget and expensed to appropriate sources of funding.
  • Develop policies and software-based processes for donor funding documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure fiscal compliance of all grant funded programs.

Partnership Development:

  • Coordinate and communicate with independent accountants and auditors to ensure transparency and integrity.
  • Coordinate with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to ensure membership requirements regarding finance are met.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all payroll records.
  • Train program staff in proper procedures regarding cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts 

receivable, and budgeting as needed or requested.

  • Attend Finance Committee meetings in an informative role, as requested.
  • Assist Operations team in budget preparation and management, as requested.

 

Supervision:

  • Supervise assigned staff and provide leadership to BGCLK finance and accounting-focused positions.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting, including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of participation figures, and any Club Member conduct or other issues.

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • College degree in related area.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Non-profit finance experience preferred.
