Overview

In partnership with the Chief Professional Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors, the Director of Resource Development & Marketing plans, directs and administers comprehensive fundraising and marketing strategies aimed at increasing the organization’s fundraising income and public awareness of services, programs and activities. 

Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Establish short and long-range goals for unrestricted funding sources.
  • Strategize and orchestrate methods of approach for identifying, cultivating and stewarding organizational and potential donors in partnership with CEO and Resource Develop committee with an emphasis on growing individual donor base.
  • Research public and private grant sources to identify sources of restricted and unrestricted funding which support organizational mission and vision.
  • Organize individual donor campaigns, (e.g. Support A Boy/Girl, major donors, direct mail and board of directors).
  • Organize solicitation drives for pledge of ongoing support from individuals, corporations and foundations (e.g. giving circles, alumni campaign, business Support A Boy/Girl, annual campaign).

Major Gift/Donor Support

  • Produce major donor, board and special category solicitations/support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible.
  • Cultivate and steward donors by producing specialized correspondences, preparing letters or acknowledgement, scheduling and attending in-person visits.
  • Maintain an active schedule of cultivation and solicitation meetings with current and prospective corporate and individual donors.

      Planned Giving Program (The Heritage Club)

  • Identify and cultivate individuals to participate in The Heritage Club program.
  • Track progress of pending legacy and bequest gifts.
  • Fulfill requests, produce correspondences.

 Database and Records Management

  • Maintain donor database management system and generate queries, reports, exports and any other data as needed.
  • Compose and mail all (tax) acknowledgement letters, maintain files.

 Research foundations and grant opportunities

  • Work with CEO and key program staff to stay current on priority funding needs and develop appropriate funding proposals for those program needs.
  • Write grants, maintain all grant schedules & reports.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to ensure all grant requirements are met.

Public Relations

  • Prepare and arrange all public relations functions for the organization including, but not limited to radio, TV, newspaper releases and fundraising materials.
  • Schedule, prepare and present public speaking engagements.

Marketing

  • Develop comprehensive marketing campaigns to promote the organization, events, programs, services and impact. Including planning, advertising, public relations, event organization, development, distribution, sponsorship and research.
  • Utilizing Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s marketing assets or vendors to create all visual concepts to communicate organization events, programs, services, and impact (e.g. web graphics, email templates and other collateral materials).
  • Oversee the development and production design for advertisement, brochures, newsletters, flyers and reports.

Newsletter Editor

  • Oversee the development of an organizational quarterly newsletter.
  • Function as the editor for the newsletter and maintain newsletter database.

 Social media

  • Manage and update all social media accounts for the organization.

Website

  • Manage and update content for the organization’s website (bgcalbany.org).

 Resource Management

  • Manage administrative and operational systems to track fundraising income, compile income status reports, variance reports and donor recognition.
  • Control all fundraising and marketing/PR expenditures against budget. Manage vendors and freelance consultants to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of products and services.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of best practices of fundraising and marketing practices.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to appropriate board committees and task forces.

  • Be an advocate for the interest and enhancing the lives of all young people by removing the barriers and helping to find the, allies, solutions, programs, partnerships and resources to ensure a GREAT FUTURE is within reach of every child.
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to our Kids First approach in all actions and decisions and the impact on members and kids.

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices related to fundraising and marketing.
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements and best practices in fundraising and marketing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact professionally with Club staff, Board members, partners, volunteers and other related agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, administrative and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage and excel in multi-faceted and detailed oriented projects.
  • Ability to utilize technology to improve efficiency and work product.
  • Scrupulous attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years or more as a development and marketing professional for a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience as a professional fundraiser including experience soliciting gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations and grant writing.
  • Proven track record successful solicitations of major gifts and planned gifts
  • Experience in event management and solicitation of sponsorships
  • Experience working with boards and board committees
  • Experience with a constituent management database
