Overview

Job Summary

Directs and manages the overall daily operations of a branch/unit under the control of the organization with the primary concern for a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervision and training of staff (direct and indirect reports), personnel issues, management of a facility, manage a budget, actively engage and support a community relations, volunteers, and membership administration. Represents the Club in the community and builds a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army implementing program services that advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  1. Establish Unit or Branch programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes.
  2. Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with well-maintained facilities, equipment and supplies.

Strategic Planning

  1. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Unit or Branch overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.

Resource Management

  1. Manage Unit or Branch financial resources, assisting in the development of annual budgets. Control expenditures against budget.
  2. Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club’s physical properties and equipment, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies.
  3. Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.

Partnership Development

  1. Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.
  2. Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.
  3. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  4. Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation planning and management. Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and fund-raising. Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers. Ability to promote and encourage good sportsmanship. Ability to promote the Club and to recruit youth participation. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services and Three (3) years’ progressively responsible experience in the management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club, with at least two (2) years in a leadership capacity or Five (5) years’ experience working in a similar youth-serving organization or any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License (CDL is preferred), First Aid and C.P.R. Certification (or ability to obtain), State Licensed Director’s Credentials (preferred), Tier 1 BGCA Certified Trainer (or ability to obtain)
