The VP of Development and Communications will lead the organization’s process to chart its course in philanthropy and fund development. Guides staff and volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within the organization, securing charitable contributions to support the mission and vision.  This individual will work with the President & CEO and Board of Trustees to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress against goals.

This person also has deep knowledge of and can implement nonprofit fundraising systems and strategies while simultaneously creating and cultivating a pipeline of leads and closing gifts.

 

We seek an experienced development and communications leader with knowledge of best practices in fundraising principles to include major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, annual giving, event management, donor communications, and prospect research. This dynamic leader will be a self-starter with a proven track record of success in nonprofit fundraising, partnership, and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically leads and directs all development activities.
  • Assures productivity and commitments goals are met.
  • managing, training, and developing the development team.
  • Establishes a multi-year development plan that focuses on recruiting major donors, corporations and foundations, events, planned giving, capital needs, and individual giving.
  • Research and analyze the donor base of foundations, corporations, and individuals.
  • Identifies new methods to enhance the organization's visibility, increase support, and reach potential donors.
  • Identifies and addresses organizational development challenges for leadership.
  • Nurtures relationships with the community and potential board candidates.
  • Plans and prepares special event logistics, including obtaining sponsorships, soliciting gifts, and conceptualizing print and publication materials.
  • Manages all direct mail campaigns.
  • Leads the BGCH Advisory Council.
  • Conducts individual donor solicitation and cultivates potential Major Gifts prospects.
  • Participates in donor solicitation with club executives and key volunteers, depending on their interests, personal relationships, and program knowledge.
  • Increases visibility of Club programs, services, and activities and maintains good public relations with donors and prospects.
  • Assesses and mentors’ performance of staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, evaluation, community relations, and program operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of nonprofit leadership responsible for managing a team of development and communications professionals.
  • A passion for the mission, objectives, principles, and programs of Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Ability to lead and cultivate a highly effective development and communications team.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement effective operations.
  • Proven ability to manage marketing and communications functions.
  • Excellent leadership abilities, negotiation skills, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Trustees
