Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

The Vice President, Resource Development will work closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to provide leadership for the Resource Development (RD) department- a 19-person team charged with raising $19+ million annually to support BGCMA’s general operations and our RISE2025 goal to serve more kids, more often, with greater impact across Metro Atlanta.

 

This role manages a team of 8 development leaders tasked with raising nearly $9 million of the $19 million annual goal from Foundations, Corporations, and Special Events. This role is supported by a Sr. Director of Institutional Giving, Director of Foundation Giving, Director of Institutional Giving, Director of Partnerships, Community Engagement Manager, Director of Special Events, Special Events Manager, and a Special Events Coordinator.

 

The Vice President, Resource Development must be a seasoned development professional with deep roots in the Atlanta philanthropic market. They must raise the organization’s profile in the Metro Atlanta area in pursuit of strategic, high-value partnerships with companies and foundations. The VP will be responsible for increasing philanthropic support from institutions by at least 10% each year.  Because the position manages a team, the VP must be a strong people manager and have a commitment to developing a strong team of front-line fundraisers.

 

The VP will partner closely with the CDO, Programs & Operations team, Development colleagues, senior leadership, board members, advisory board members and donors to ensure BGCMA raises the necessary resources to fulfill our mission.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Partner with CDO in leading, supervising, mentoring, and training full-time development team to create and implement effective cultivation., solicitation, and stewardship strategies for donors and prospects to effectively drive results in both their individuals and team portfolios.
  • Assist in creating a comprehensive annual development plan and establishing fundraising goals, benchmarks, and metrics for success.
  • Works with members of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees in partnership with the CDO, CEO, and other senior leaders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the RD & Marketing Committee, ensuring this Board Committee is actively pushing the Board of Directors to fulfill or exceed their annual give/get commitments.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and management of fundraising team.
  • Manage relationships with key Foundations & Corporations in the Atlanta market, with an eye toward deepening their engagement and financial support year over year.
  • Lead team to develop a Corporate Champions affinity group and case for support.
  • Lead team to spearhead a new volunteer service project model.
  • Leverage and effectively establish connections with new foundation and corporate prospects, assessing their alignment with BGCMA and building a pipeline for funding.
  • Assist in the development of tailored proposals for corporate partners and foundation that align to the organization’s strategic priorities and provide appropriate level of recognition to donors.
  • Monitor special events and volunteer services budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, Experience AND SKILLS:

Education

  • BA or master’s degree, CFRE preferred
  • 10+ years of high-level development experience, with specific expertise in cultivating, securing and stewarding high-value partnerships.
  • Proven experience successfully leading and managing a team, utilizing team building, goal setting, effective communication, and delegation.
  • Experience co-creating a multi-faceted engagement with a donor
  • Experience managing high-value corporate and foundation relationships
  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance and experience managing relationships with board members
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to edit other’s work and to write and speak in clear and compelling ways
  • Project management and budget development skills
  • A positive attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Willingness to work periodic weekends and evenings
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility with demanding workloads
  • Passionate about youth development for underserved communities and/or addressing social injustice a significant plus
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word, & PowerPoint. Experience using project management software such as Asana.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and SalesForce a must
