Overview

TITLE: Director of Grants

OVERVIEW: The individual selected for this position will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current grant funds, ensuring proper collection of data and reporting on results for grant-funded programs, researching and soliciting new grant funding, and providing leadership to staff responsible for managing grant-funded programs. As a key member of the resource development team, this individual will help build relationships with current and potential funders as well as help build a strong case for support in the community.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive grants strategy in alignment with the organization's mission and goals.

  • Integrate grant-seeking activities with the organization's broader strategic initiatives as a member of the senior leadership team.

  • Forecast, manage, and report on grant-related financial goals and budgets.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Grant Program Manager and Assistant Director of Grants, fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue grant opportunities from various sources, including government, foundations, and other entities.

  • Oversee the development and submission of grant proposals, ensuring they comply with funder guidelines and are submitted on time.

  • Monitor and manage grant agreements to ensure adherence to terms and conditions.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and networking events relevant to grant-making and philanthropy.

  • Collaborate with different departments to align grant efforts with the organization’s overall objectives.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to funders, senior leadership, and the board.

  • Oversee compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial standards in grant-funded programs.

  • Develop and maintain a system for tracking and reporting grant-related metrics and outcomes.

  • Communicate the impact of grant-funded programs both internally and externally.

  • Advocate for the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders and partners.

  • Continuously assess and improve the grant management process, staying informed about trends in grant funding and philanthropy.

  • Work with the finance department to manage grant budgets and ensure proper allocation and use of funds.

  • Conduct financial analysis related to grant funding and implement controls to monitor grant expenditures.

  • Identify risks associated with grant funding and develop strategies to mitigate them.

  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure ethical and compliant grant-seeking practices.

Internal and External Relationships:

  • Maintain close contact with Club staff and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Recruits and cultivates volunteers through involvement in meetings and community events.

  • Maintain contact with parents or guardians in order to communicate about Club activities, explain or interpret Club guidelines, and address any conduct issues relative to Members.

  • Initiate and maintain positive communication with school principals and classroom teachers.

  • Work cooperatively to help achieve goals and grant objectives associated with the special programs.

Supervision:

  • Supervise assigned staff and provide leadership to BGCLK grant-focused positions.

  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting, including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of participation figures, and any Club Member conduct or other issues.

  • Ensure productive and effective performance and direct work of program staff, AmeriCorps Members, and volunteers associated with your grant program areas of oversight.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May be required to drive the Club van.

  • May be required to answer phones and perform other light administrative duties.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    • College degree or equivalent experience.  Elementary or secondary education degree or hours completed toward an elementary or secondary education degree, preferred.

    • CPR/First Aid Certification, preferred.

    • Experience working with children.

    • Knowledge of youth development.

    • Experience planning and implementing quality programs for youth.

    • Ability to motivate children and youth and manage behavior problems.

    • Ability to organize and supervise children in a safe environment.

    • Ability to work with the general public (both verbal and written).

    • Have a valid State Driver's License (van drivers only).

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; 

    • Some climbing and balancing;

    • Significant finger dexterity. 

    • Generally, the job requires 40% sitting and 60% walking and standing. 

    • This position is performed under minimal temperature variations, in a generally hazard-free environment, and in varying atmospheric conditions.
