Overview

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Area Director II for the Houston Area Command Boys and Girls Club, located in Houston, Texas.  

 

Job Summary

Directs and manages overall daily operations at units/branches/clubs with the primary concern for a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervision and training of staff (direct and indirect reports), facilities management, community relations, and membership administration. Advises and assists Unit Directors/Branch Managers in the areas of volunteer recruitment and management, Advisory Organizational Development, facility management, personnel issues, budget development, and program development. Typically, will work with several Club sites or CIP sites within a command area or region. Provides programs in accordance with and to advance the mission and goals of the organization. Provides leadership, direction and support to the Area Commander/Corps Officer in developing organizational goals, attaining/allocating resources, and establishing policies. Directs/manages overall operations of the Boys & Girls Club with the primary concern for program and service delivery and implementing program services which advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation program development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of volunteer recruitment. Knowledge of the principles and practices of community relations, development and fundraising. Ability to supervise, lead motivate and influence the staff and patrons of the Boys & Girls Clubs. Ability to develop and implement promotional and fundraising activities to enhance the outreach and financial efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs. Ability to enforce the Boys & Girls Club rules and to resolve conflicts among patrons visiting the Club in order to ensure the safety of all patrons and staff.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services And Five (5) years’ progressively responsible experience in the management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club, with at track record of at least two years in a leadership capacity of a Club organization with multiple sites with a budget of $1.5 Million up to $3M. Or Seven (7) years’ experience working in a similar youth-service organization Or any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred), Basic First Aid and CPR Certification, Tier 2 BGCA Trainer Certification or ability to obtain

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing including the providing of clear instructions to employees. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation. Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality. Ability to drive a vehicle for extended trips. Combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
