Overview

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Director of Development, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from new individual donors and nurture and encourage existing individual donors for growth and sustainability  The incumbent will also cultivate new investment partners from the local community including government, business, and industry using effective persuasion, appeal, and winning concessions without damaging relationships by positioning views and arguments appropriately to win support.  The incumbent will encourage diverse and innovative thinking to promote and nurture innovation and new sources of revenue.  Together with other staff professionals, board committees, and board members the incumbent will develop and execute the club’s financial development vision with an emphasis on enhancing the donor experience from acquisition of new donors to active stewardship of the existing donor base. Articulates the vision in a way everyone can relate to and creates organization-wide energy and optimism.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Donor Management – Conceptualize, analyze, and monitor individual identification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies. Develop and manage a portfolio of current and prospective individual donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward. Creatively solicit and encourage new gifts, renewed, increased, and major gift donations. This may include in-person meetings, direct mail, digital appeals, and planned giving efforts. Create and project manage an annual communication plan for regular donors. Identify lapsed donors and communicate effectively with them to reactivate and engage wherever possible.  

  

Donor Relations – Communicate persuasively through personal visits, written materials, appeal letters and reports. Participate in site visits for individual donors and prospects. Manage and participate in solicitations and stewardship activities for major donors. Draft personalized solicitation and acknowledgement letters, newsletter articles and other correspondence as appropriate. Ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgement of all donors through written thanks and donor recognition events and opportunities.  

  

Database Management – Partner with other Team Members to keep records current for all donors and prospects. Analyzes data to discover new development opportunities and set objectives to align with broader organizational goals. Identify trends in giving to ensure all donors are managed by the appropriate revenue stream. Track, analyze, and report on results from allocated campaigns. Ensure analysis of results of all campaigns and use data to develop and influence future activity and anticipates and adjusts effective contingency plans. 

  

Team Building and Management and Goal Setting – Has supervisory responsibility for the Grant Writing Function, Marketing, and Event Planning.  Forms teams with appropriate and diverse mix of styles, perspectives, and experience, yet with a shared mindset and common objectives.   Fosters open dialogue and collaboration amongst the Team and shares wins and rewards team efforts. 

  

Special Events – Provide support to annual and fundraising events as assigned. Represent BGCCV at external events and public/private groups. Help develop fundraising strategies for events and projects as announced. 

  

Board/Volunteer Relations – Ensure the board has all necessary information prior to and after each meeting as it relates to getting their work done as a Board. Completes monthly and quarterly reports for Individual Giving based on activity, numbers, and budget status. 

  

Communication – Uses persuasion and influence to convince others to act and negotiate effectively in tough situations.  Effectively communicates to a broad and diverse constituency in both written and oral skills.  Picks up on interpersonal and group dynamics and relates comfortably with people across levels, functions, and cultures.  Instills trust by demonstrating consistency between words and actions and practicing what they preach. 

  

Customer-Focus – Gains insight into customer needs and develops plans and action that have reciprocal value and build strong, enduring relationships. 

  

General Admin – Provides general administrative support as needed with an emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. 

  

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge Requirements: 
Education & Experience 

  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university required. 
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible financial resource development experience required 
  • Strong communication skills; both oral and written. 
  • Great Teamwork skills, including a working knowledge of the local community and an understanding and appreciation of the unique culture of the locality. 
  • Computer skills: comfort and familiarity with various features of Microsoft Office Suite and competency with social media resources. Proficiency with Donor Perfect is highly desirable. Ability to quickly learn new computer programs and assimilate effectively into the function preferred. 
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management skills and abilities. 
  • Impeccable honesty, integrity, and fiduciary qualities. 
  • Interest and ability to professionally represent BGCCV in the public eye.  

  

Physical Requirements 

  • Applicants must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.  
  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 40 lbs.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. 
  • Requires ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, squat, pull/push, grasp up to 4-8 hours per day.
