Position Summary

 

The Junior Accountant is a key member of our financial team, dedicated to bolstering the financial operations of our organization. This role involves a broad range of accounting duties, including financial record-keeping, analysis, reporting, budgeting, grant management, and compliance tasks. The Junior Accountant will work under the guidance of the VP of Finance, playing a critical role in financial record-keeping, analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

 

  • Handle invoicing for grants, donations, and other funding sources relevant to non-profit operations.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes, contributing to financial planning and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements pertinent to non-profit financial management.
  • Compile detailed financial statements and board reports.
  • Generate year-to-date financial reports, monitoring the organization's financials.
  • Assist in regularly audit expenses, ensuring all financial records are accurate and updated.
  • Assist in managing and updating financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Perform basic reconciliations of accounts, resolving any discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare journal entries and contribute to month-end closing procedures.
  • Collaborate in preparing comprehensive financial reports, including income statements and balance sheets.
  • Assist in financial data analysis, budget preparation, and accurate forecast development.
  • Assist with tax preparation, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Communicate with donors regarding financial matters, including preparing donor reports and providing receipts for donations.
  • Support in monitoring the organization's cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds for operations.
  • Assist in vendor management, processing payments, and resolving any disputes.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal controls to ensure the accuracy of financial information.
  • Provide financial training and support to other staff members, assisting with individual department or project budgets.
  • Assist in the planning and budgeting for fundraising events or other special projects.
  • Prepare audit schedules and other reports as required by external auditors.
  • Assist with other accounting duties as needed.

 

Relationships

 

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with VP of Finance and finance department to receive/provide information, strategize, discuss issues, and advise/counsel.

 

External: Assists in contact with donors, staff, volunteers and community organization, as requested.

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in accounting, preferably within a non-profit environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Excellent command over Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced functions in Excel.
  • Prior experience in a non-profit setting will be a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with Paylocity preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in financial records.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex financial information in an understandable way.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent collaborative skills.
  • Capacity to learn swiftly and adapt to changing priorities and processes in a dynamic non-profit environment.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for Covid19.

 

Environment and Working Conditions

 

Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, and temperature and noise extremes. 

 

Physical and Mental Requirements

 

Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of standing for long periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.
