Overview

The Director of Operations & Programs directs and manages overall daily operations of all Club sites with the primary concern for program implementation, service delivery, outcomes, safety, staff development, supervision of youth development staff, facilities, technology, transportation, and budget management. The director works as a part of the organization’s leadership team to strategically plan for and realize organization-wide growth opportunities and performs related administrative duties.

Responsibilities

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Establish Club program objectives consistent with organizational mission and that support our primary outcomes as determined by the Formula for Impact: Academic Success, Good Character and Leadership and Healthy Lifestyles.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members
  • Create an environment that highlights the achievement of youth

 

Program Development & Implementation

  • Use the Formula for Impact as a guide to create activities and programs that appeal to youth, engage them in planning and gear them towards future success.
  • Establish and maintain Club program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensure that Club staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensure program/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Control Club program and activity expenditures within approved budget
  • Prepare program reports according to grant requirements

 

Partnership Development

  • Establish community partnerships with organizations, institutions and/or individuals for the purpose of program enhancement
  • Coordinate with schools and administrative staff to continue program offerings at school sites
  • Plan and implement weekly all-staff meetings, for the purpose of evaluation, planning, training and recognition
  • Participate in professional information and development sessions as required by Chief Professional Officer (including but not limited to conferences and trainings provided by BGCA)
  • Act as a representative of the Club as assigned by the Chief Professional Officer (including but not limited to public presentations, media interviews, etc.)

 

Supervision

  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
  • Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problem/issues.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff; maintaining professionalism and respect at all times

 

Safety and Security

  • Ensure program areas are safe that the Club equipment is maintained in good working condition
  • Ensure all safety policies are enforced at all times
  • Ensure all Violence Prevention policies are enforced at all times
  • Conduct regular site visits to observe programming and assess safety and risk

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations:

  • Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for Club members, parents and the public

 

Relationships:

  • Maintain daily contact with program and administration staff to provide assistance in matters of programming and operations
  • Maintain contact with members and parents as needed to advise and/or discipline
  • Maintain contact with off-site school principals and administrative staff

 

Other:

  • May be required to drive Club vans
  • Assistance with some special events in relation to planning, prepping and attending may be required
  • Assistance with other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief Professional Officer
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

Education:

Four year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university preferred.

 

Experience:

    • Experience in a Boys & Girls Club (or similar organization) preferred.
    • Must have experience managing programs or operations based on the developmental needs of young people
    • Experience managing staff members required

  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities; including recruitment, supervision and motivation
  • Ability to deal effectively with members, including discipline problems
