Overview

SALARY:  $120,000 yr.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Develops and directs the execution of the organization’s annual resource development and communications program.  Additional primary functions include generating fundraising income through campaigns targeting foundations, corporations, civic groups and individual donors within the five communities.  Provide writing support for foundation and corporate grant requests and acknowledgement of donor gifts.

 

Primary functions also include directing the identification, research, cultivation and solicitation of major gift individual prospects and donors.  Prepare correspondence, proposals, and reports.  Conduct face-to-face solicitations, involving Club executives and key volunteers, as appropriate.    Supports and approves all special event fundraising activities for organization.

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

 

Leadership

  • Contribute to the development of overall development goals and strategies and manage the implementation of all activities relating to resource development and external communications.
  • Manage and supervise assigned staff.  Oversee all aspects of the resource development department.
  • Contribute to the development of overall development and strategies.  Manage the implementation of all activities relating to Major Gifts campaigns and planned gift campaigns.
  • Develop and implement marketing and public relation strategies designed to build appreciation and support of Club programs, services and activities, and to increase participation by youth in the community.

 

Strategic Planning

  • Research and identify individual prospects for contribution solicitations as well as individuals for major gifts solicitations.  Prepare background reports on donor giving and interests, and develop proposals for donor consideration.
  • Evaluate giving trends of individuals, corporations and foundations and determine those with potential for supporting the organization.
  • Evaluate overall results of all financial development programs and recommend modifications or new approaches to support successful achievement of development goals.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan regarding activities relating to club fundraising efforts for five communities.
  • Contribute to operational strategic planning, identifying opportunities to promote Club services, programs and activities to specific constituents or the public at large.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve Club marketing and public relations activities.

 

 Resource Development

  • Cultivate potential prospects, develop proposals and conduct solicitations of donors.
  • Collaborate with Club executives and key volunteers to engage them in donor solicitations, based on donor interests, personal relationships, program expertise or other criteria.
  • Contribute to attaining financial support:
  • Federal Grants & Programs (21st Century CCL)
  • State Grants & Programs (TEXSYN, Citibank)
  • write grant proposals for foundation support
    • Local Government Grants & Programs ( City funding; Music at the Gap & Middle Schools in Killeen)
    • Annual Fund Drives (5 separate One Campaign fund drives)
  • work with club management to solicit corporations and civic groups for donations and other support; and
  • plan and implement special fundraising events
  • Cultivate potential Major Gifts prospects, develop proposals and conduct solicitations of individual donors.
  • Cultivate potential planned gift prospects, develop proposals and conduct solicitations of individual donors and/or their attorneys or accountants.
  • Negotiate terms of planned giving agreements as appropriate with donors and their attorneys.  Conduct initial review of completed documents to ensure they comply with B&GC standards and are in the agency’s best interest, then pass along for approval and sign off by counsel and designated officer.

 

Resource Management

  • Control fund raising expenses within budget.
  • Manage record keeping for donors, assuring effective administrative and operational support functions are in place.
  • Train Club staff, executives, board members and volunteers in solicitation techniques and involve them in financial development activities.
  • Manage administrative and operational systems to:
  • track fundraising income, compile income status reports and variance reports; and
  • recognize contributions with acknowledgment letters and special recognition events
  • Control fundraising expenses related to planned gift and Major Gifts solicitations within budget.

 

 Partnership Development

  • Develop strategic alliances with community leaders, donors and prospects.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, funders and community organizations.

 Marketing, Public Relations & Communications

  • Increase visibility of Club programs, services and activities and maintain good public relations with donors and prospects.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop and implement an all-inclusive marketing plan/campaign.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to plan and implement an organization-wide annual Gala.
  • Work with local Advisory Board volunteers to market planned special events. Work with local media outlets to ensure frequent and consistent communication related to club happenings and impact. 
  • Work with third party entities that have selected the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas as the beneficiary of their special event to ensure the Club is appropriately represented.

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, or a combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years work experience in relevant financial development and communications activities and a proven track record of accomplishment in this area
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all types of people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of accessing and utilizing donor data base.
