Overview

FUNCTION – SCOPE STATEMENT:

 

The Development Manager - Special Events will serve as the primary contact and lead for the organization’s annual fundraising events, and will develop and implement additional complementary events. The Development Manager - Special Events is a revenue generating position ($2 million plus) that will oversee the planning, execution and drive the fundraising plans for reaching the event’s financial goals, playing a key role in Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston’s annual development efforts.

 

Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

In collaboration with the Senior Director of Development:

 

  1. Responsible for overseeing all annual events, including the Youth of the Year dinner, Rise and Shine Breakfast, Great Future’s Dinner, and Sporting Clays Tournament with an annual fundraising goal of $2,000,000+.
  2. Assist Senior Director, as well as other managers, with additional cultivation and friend-raising events.
  3. Coordinate with Senior Director of Development, volunteer chairs, and committees on all aspects of fundraising for events, including table and team sales, underwriting, and auction item solicitation.
  4. Manage event budget, vendor procurement and contract negotiation.
  5. Maintain a complete file of event donors, prospect and invitation lists, and printed and promotional pieces.
  6. Oversee acknowledgement of event contributions and prepare reports in conjunction with the Development Coordinator.
  7. Create and prepare all event coordination documents. Examples include: Run of Show, agenda, briefing packet, script, project leaders list, RSVP reports, fundraising reports
  8. Oversee the creation of all event related materials, both print and electronic. This includes invitations, save the dates, videos, programs, scripts, and more.
  9. Coordinate all non-fundraising events including, but not limited to: ribbon cuttings, grand openings, press conferences and receptions.
  10. Create comprehensive promotional plan (digital, print and media) to promote, recognize sponsors/donors and elevate all events.
  11. Assist the Vice President of Development, Senior Director of Development and CEO with other special projects as necessary.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or as assigned.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum of three years’ progressive development in a non-profit organization.
  2. Experience in fundraising event planning with seven figure revenue goals
  3. Demonstrated success in raising money and working with volunteers.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Proficient in MS Office. Working knowledge of Photoshop is a plus.
  6. Proven ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
  7. Must be detail oriented; work well under pressure; able to juggle multiple tasks; a team player.
  8. Knowledge of the community is a plus.
  9. Knowledge of Raisers Edge preferred.

  

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with the Club management to exchange information, seek and give assistance, consultation and direction.  Maintain contact with financial staff and support staff.  Maintain written and verbal contact with volunteers and donors.

External: Maintain contact with corporate leaders, community, board members, donors, volunteers, vendors and the public to seek financial support and provide information regarding club activities and needs.
