Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Branch Director, the Athletic & Wellness Director plans and executes athletic programs, leagues, camps, health and wellness, and nutrition programs. The Athletic & Wellness Director supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship of our members. Athletic programs aim to teach members the fundamentals of a variety of sports, teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles, good character and leadership. Safety is the number one priority of the Athletic & Wellness Director.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment conducive to youth development. All storage areas are organized for quick retrieval of items and repairs are reported to the Branch Director and taken care of in a timely manner. Responsible for maintenance of all athletic equipment.
  2. Will communicate with City Partners for gym, field and park space.
  3. Plan and execute Athletic & Wellness programs to actively engage members, parents, volunteers and the community.
  4. Plan and conduct leagues, camps and weekly programs for members at an age appropriate levels with safety measures in place.
  5. Provide leadership and guidance for professional development for other Athletic & Wellness instructors, coaches and volunteers in the Club to promote learning and teach best practices.
  6. Facilitate and improve the Athletic and Wellness programs.
  7. Provide leadership, development and implementation of the curriculum for athletic and wellness programs.
  8. Ensure that topics taught in the Clubs programs meet state and national standards and follow current athletic and wellness trends.
  9. Maintain current knowledge and trends of developments in Athletic & Wellness model.
  10. Collaborate with schools and community partners to support Athletic & Wellness programs.
  11. Collect quantitative data on pre, mid and post outcomes for members.
  12. Teach a variety of sports and wellness programs and activities for ages 7 - 18.
  13. Core athletic and wellness areas are leagues, camps, athletic programs and healthy lifestyles education.
  14. Administrative tasks included but are not limited to creating purchase orders and purchasing needed supplies, budget development and maintaining budget, program league and camp income, grant management, and imputing data into the member tracking system.
  15. Must maintain appropriate safety protocols based off of the program or activity.

 

ADDITONAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. May manage special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community.
  2. Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire.
  3. Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing concerning Athletic & Wellness programs and goals.
  4. Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to: building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, setup of athletic equipment, etc.
  5. Is a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Due to relationships with members, staff and volunteers, a minimum of 2 years commitment is recommended is recommended. Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    • Preferred a 4 year college degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent/relevant work experience based on the Athletic & Wellness development needs of youth ages 7 – 18 years old.
    • Strong communication skills, understanding fo group dynamics.
    • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.
    • Basic knowledge of updating and managing websites.
    • Abilities to repair technology equipment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment us (projectors, screens, televisions, security systems etc).
    • Mandatory CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications.
    • Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record.
    • Ability to learn and teach the common understandings of Athletic & Wellness programs, coordinating leagues and camps.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Use of hands, upper extremities, feet and lower extremities for athletic abilities.
    • Manual dexterity to repair equipment
    • Ability to lift 25 – 50 pounds.
    • Ability to sit, stand and walk to supervise members.
    • Noise level in work environment varies from very quiet to very noisy based on attendance.
    • Supervision of large, medium, and small groups is required. BGCCV staff ratio is 1 adult per 20 members.
