JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Under the supervision of the Branch Director, the Social Recreation Director plans and coordinates structured social interaction, through field trips, recreational and essential activities to enhance social skills and allow members to build lifelong friendships through real life situations. Safety is the #1 priority as the Social Recreation Director.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1.  Is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment, conducive to youth development. All storage areas are organized for quick retrieval of items. Repairs are reported to the Branch Director and taken care of in a timely manner. Responsible for maintenance of all program supplies inventory in games room. 
  2. Plan recreational activities in three categories; outdoor, social and physical.  
  3. Outdoor recreation consists of hiking, Summer and Spring field trips, day trips to work with community partners, and running outside group activities. 
  4. Social activities include, things such as; carnivals, picnics, tournaments, indoor Club programs, family engagement activities and youth recognition ceremonies. 
  5. Physical activities include working with the Club’s athletic director, to teach social skills and de-escalating techniques through physical games and activities.  
  6. The ability to communicate, coordinate, and orientate volunteers to Club programs. 
  7. Implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of creative programs that encourage consistent attendance.  Compiles and provides activity reports and documentation as needed.   
  8. Promotes and markets Club programs to increase membership in social recreation programs/activities.  Promotions are directed to members and non-members utilizing the posting of daily and upcoming schedules, making announcements through flyers, mailings, and the media.  Provides program descriptions to the Branch Director for program brochures. 
  9. Maintains proper record keeping and reporting procedures of activities and events conducted, daily attendance numbers, notable achievements and problem issues.  Records payments for membership, day camp and other fee-based activities on “Child Track” program.  Reconciles receipts and reports.  Initiates collection of accounts when necessary.   
  10. Evaluates scholarship applications. Provides program activity reports on all programs in a concise and timely manner.  Equipment and supplies are ordered, maintained, and stored to assure maximum use. 
  11. Develops and fosters a positive climate and assures youth receive constructive guidance to assist them in fulfilling and making appropriate choices in educational, personal, physical, social, emotional, and vocational needs.  Implements a program that recognizes members for achievement.  Enforces appropriate discipline when necessary. 
  12. Is responsible for ensuring all members’ well-being during all Club activities on- and off-site.  Inspects equipment regularly for safety and proper operating condition.  Administer first aid as needed.  Completes accurate accident and incident reports. 
  13. Administrative tasks include but are not limited to: creating purchase orders and purchasing needed supplies, budget development and maintaining budget, program income, grant management and inputting data into the member tracking system. 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. May manage special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community. 
  2. Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire. 
  3. Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing concerning Social Recreation programs and goals.  
  4. Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to: building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, set up of AV equipment, etc. 
  5. Is a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club. 

Qualifications

  • SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

     

    • Preferred a 4-year college degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent/relevant work experience based on the STEAM development needs of youth ages 7 -18 years old. 

     

    • Strong communication skills, understanding of group dynamics. 

     

    • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities. 

     

    • Basic knowledge of updating and managing websites. 

     

    • Ability to repair social recreation equipment. 

     

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 

     

    • Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment use (projectors, screens, televisions, security systems etc.). 

     

    • Experience using video development software and other software. 

     

    • Mandatory CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications. 

     

    • Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record. 
    • Ability to learn and teach teamwork, sportsmanship, good character and citizenship. 

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

     

    1. Use of hands and upper extremities to type and operate computers. 
    1. Manual dexterity to repair equipment. 
    1. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds. 
    1. Ability to sit, stand and walk to supervise members. 
    1. Noise level in work environment varies from very quiet to very noisy based on attendance. 
    1. Supervision of large, medium, and small groups is required. BGCCV staff ratio is 1 adult per 20 members.
