Overview

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley needs dynamic, flexible people who are ignited by the idea of Igniting Greatness in the youth we serve.  This newly expanded position is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs such as Academic Enrichment, College Readiness, the Arts, and Sports & Recreation. Plan, develop, oversee implementation and supervise programs and program staff for various Teen Center programs, including the integration of Youth Force development programs.  This position is also responsible for teen recruitment and retention of teen membership. 

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES:

 

Program Development and Implementation

 

  • Establish Teen Center programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained, ensuring the facility is welcoming and inclusive for teen
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals relative to the needs and interest of teen
  • Complies with grant and federal regulations and ensures grant objectives are met
  • Support the operation of regularly scheduled sport programs and leagues

 

Strategic Planning and Teen Recruitment

  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs.
  • Conduct special events and outreach activities to recruit teens as new members to the Club
  • Work with Club sites serving teens across the board to develop programming, partnership development, and marketing efforts to ensure teen recruitment and implementation.
  • Manage all grant reporting and implementation, including tracking, measuring, and developing specific strategic goals and work plans
  • Implements tutoring programs for students and tracks academic progress

 

Resource Management

  • Control program and activity expenditures within approved budget.
  • Monitors program areas and provides constructive feedback to staff with regard to program delivery and member guidance and discipline.
  • Trains and guides Program Staff to insure an environment that promotes the physical, social and emotional well-being of youth, that incorporates guidance and discipline principles and that insures understanding of designated programs.
  • Orders program supplies in a cost efficient manner and insures program staff has supplies required to run programs.
  • Consult with parents about member issues.
  • Implement and manage all grants including completing monthly reports.

 

Partnership Development

  • Develop partnerships and collaborate with internal organizations within the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley; parents; community leaders and organizations, and local schools specific to the needs and interests of teens and or the Club site and communities which serve teens to include

Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a BS/BA in related field preferred
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of youth development theory and the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Experience in recruiting teens and serving teens through implementation of key programs and supervision of staff who work with teens.
  • Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income and potential first generation college youth in the target area
  • Knowledge of workforce development barriers faced by youth in the target area

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to move quickly to keep up with youth.
  • Must be able to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours or more
