Overview

JOB SUMMARY

In accordance with the elements of competence established for Boys & Girls Club resource development professionals, the Director of Development works with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress against goals; Supports Chief Executive Officer in positioning Board of Directors to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants for individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.  Responsible for providing direct supervision to the Resource Development Assistant and supporting senior management staff in their public relations and marketing efforts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer to plan the annual budget and implement resource development strategies to meet and exceed budget goals.
  • Active participation in the development and implementation of a resource development plan with the Chief Executive Officer and senior management staff.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with corporation and business in local area, including the entertainment industry.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate communications between Board of Directors, volunteers and staff members.
  • Provide leadership to the Board of Directors, Resource Development committee.
  • Prepare financial reports, including projected time lines for incremental receipt of revenues.
  • Coordinate appeal letters, thank you letters and agency information correspondence to donors and supporters.
  • Prepare public relations and marketing materials for the public and the media.
  • Identify and cultivate large individual donors and direct their solicitations.
  • Supervise Resource Development Associate.
  • Direct efforts to design a program to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from major individual, corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise all fundraising events.
  • Plan solicitation strategies with Chief Executive Officer to meet budgeted annual giving targets.
  • Develop, maintain and increase the donor database to promote major cultivation and solicitation.
  • Develop and supervise donor recognition strategies and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

 

  • Seven plus years of resource and business development experience in areas of donor relations, major gift solicitations, grant writing, capital and major gift campaigns.
  • Public relations and marketing expertise.
  • Proven ability to raise substantial sums of money and meeting agreed upon financial targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and control fundraising expenses.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills and the ability to create and be part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Budgeting and computer skills, including knowledge of database operations and spreadsheet software.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties.  The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present.  

 

All employees working directly with children at the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand are required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
