Overview

The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic aquatics program is dedicated to enriching lives through aquatics by investing in people, pools, programs, and partnerships.

The Lifeguard/swim instructor will provide a safe and fun learning environment while serving as a positive role model for club members and staff. In conjunction with the Aquatics Director, he/she will manage and develop team members while supervising all members at the pool.

 

 

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model to club and team members
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
• Direct and supervise all groups at the pool
• In-charge of directing Aquatics Activities & Swim Team
• Evaluate member’s swimming abilities; identify and meet member needs
• Ensure buddy checks are being performed according to BGCPP policy
• Track members swim progress and prepare certificates for completed levels
• Coordinate daily swim and enrichment lesson schedules; supervise all swim lessons
• Ensure Instructors are prepared to teach swimming skills on a daily basis
• Perform pool maintenance duties and record any incidents
• Maintains accurate records as required by the BGCPP and/or the state health department code
• Interface with parents/guardians through written and verbal communication
• Fulfill additional duties that may be assigned

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (or equivalent)
• Basic First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED training
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness

• One year lifeguarding experience
• One year coaching and/or swim instructor experience
• One year of customer service experience
